Apple iMac 27" 3.2GHz core i3.

i used to fold for oc3d, back in the day i was getting 1000+ ppd, but when i learnt that all they did with the results was sell them to drugs companies to make money for the university, i refused to support them anymore on moral grounds, sure, it may help people eventually, but in the meantime, its helping an AMERICAN university, not a british one, make money, so no, i refuse.

Link?

Also, what's the problem with selling research? The research can't continue without money.

i don't have one, it was years ago, like 2007 ....

and that's fine, but its benefiting an AMERICAN university, not an English one, if it was benefiting an English university, i'd support it fully, even if it was just to make the university money...

but i wont support an American one with my money, no.

So you're a show-off or otherwise known as an attention seeker? I wouldn't have thought, mate. You look like a decent person - get a decent PC and start folding for team Redline@OC3D

Folding is always a great idea

wow the difference between the monitors is quite clear

thank you for returning this to the topic at hand

and it is, those are all at what their individual settings say are optimal, the telly, mounted on my wall is brightest, even though this is lit by cold cathodes, i think it may be the size of it that caused that

the imac is second brightest, but in real life looks brighter than the telly, and the pc moniter is just years behind...cold cathodes, and not very good ones at that...

I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro (one of them a gift, the other from work). The only apple products I *hate* are their mice. The one with the little round scroller was functional until it *stopped functioning*. The magic mouse is worthless. I hate trackpads. They cramp up my hand and using them slows me down considerably. Adding a trackpad to a desktop is like removing two wheels on a car to give you "the bicycle experience in a car." Gimping a device for no reason is demented. I have a SteelSeries laser mouse on the gaming PC and it's infinitely more comfortable to use.

i find the trackpad brilliant to use, ...and i like the magic mouse, but they both have their disadvantages, so its handy to have both, because what one cant do, the other does well...

besides which, you can use any mouse you want with a mac.

if thats your opinion, i quite like my mac

True enough, you just can't Hack the sexyness.

.. in other news tho, I threw together a hac sporting GA-G31M-E2SL, E7400(@3.36ghz), 2g @ 800, 500g drive, DVDRW, 9400GT 512m(low profile), 'nice' vcr looking case, and SL - over the weekend. Mostly old bits hanging around the place, bought the mobo for £35 ish. The sexyness doesn't come close, but the OS is perfect

The dual ppc G5 just seemed to be getting louder and louder and I missed SL over Leopard.

the sleakness of a mac, or even a macbook pro, ...is just beyond most things, ...i cant think of a comp, or a laptop, ive owned, that has been a well built, solid, reliable, and generally just...spot on.

Agreed. I've got an older mbp to yourself with a 17" screen c2d and 8600M (I believe). Pimped it with 4g and an SSD - it's still smacks of lovelyness and turns off/on in under 15 seconds

thats another good point, a mac will still be good in 5 years, wheras a pc will start to look dated, feel dated, act dated....and slow down, asmuch as a mac will slow down, it wont be significant...no registry
