Heya guys,

Was wondering if anyone in here knows their way around CAD and could perhaps be kind enough to help me out with something?...

Thanks,
Chrazey

Download sketchup or blender and watch a few tutorials on youtube, it's how I learned how to do it. ;)

What do you want?

Yeah, I would do it mate, if I had the time... but working nights and working 5-7 days a week at a time, doesn't give you much time for it now a days I'm afrad. Hence why I asked here...

You made that in CAD?... that looks like something a company would use as/for advertisement. Looking really good I must admit, nice one JR! :)

Basically an image for a custom side panel for the Fractal Design Arc Mini R2, a big one like the Corsair Graphite 760T. As most companies ask for a CAD image of it, for them to go after. No idea why though and since my skills are rubbish, even in photoshop, I thought I'd ask in here...

No worries though if you can't be bothered with it, have no time on your hands or so though.

Thanks guys :)

The reason companies need to ask for drawings is so that they can produce the end result that you want and prove to you that they have. If they are designer then they will need a specification of all the criteria they must achieve. If they are fabricator then they will need a drawing to inform them how to make the required part. Without that they can't prove they achieved what was asked of them and it just won't happen.

In business terms for them your order will be pathetically small so they can't afford to spend the time to sit down and produce a drawing or specification with you. If your lucky you may find someone to do the job but you've got to make it easy for them otherwise they will be reluctant to take it on. The relationship is very different to that of a consumer if they make something that doesn't work but it's what you asked for then that is your problem.

So yes I can help you if I know what it is you are trying to achieve and what you want. An Arc Mini R2 side panel with a big window like a 760T doesn't quite say it... how do you imagine it would be achieved because some ways are just unrealistic. Custom molded or pressed parts would simply be too expensive to tool. If it can be fabricated from sheet materials then you at least have a chance. Just sounds like a simple mod to me.

Thanks for your reply JR.

How it would be achieved, in that way I am not really sure to be honest. Yes, you are right. It sounds like a simple mod... although, I have the window from the Aegis, but I don't really want to cut in the existing R2 side panel and risk of loosing it all, due to my poor skills.

As knowing my own experience in this matter, I used to do some on bikes and stuff... and today I'd be happy to pay money in order to re-do what I did back then. So knowing my luck now, it will most likely end up like shit, as I always forget something. Just how I work I guess... hence why I've tried getting in touch with some companies that can do custom work for PCs.

To give you a straight answer on how it would be achieved, I am simply not able too do I'm afraid. As I said above, I have very little to no experience in this area and again, hence why I contacted professional companies regarding this.

Custom molded or pressed parts in relation to sheet materials, just in that sense I have no idea what the difference is really.

In all, I just want to get the side panel windows a fuck load bigger than what it already is. Basically covering the entire side panel itself, without any difficulties of actually closing the side panel back on. That is my goal, even though it doesn't really justify in the terms you've just explained, As in how it would be made.

Dang it... seems like this will be quite much more difficult than what I first had imagined lol.

You basically need a cad drawing of a rectange with rounded corners, so that you can have your panel cut and then simply stick a sheet of acrylic in?

EDIT: something like this?

if yes let us know which dimensions (width, hight, radius of corners) and what format you need

Don't worry dude, I was just trying to help you appreciate why its difficult for someone who doesn't know what your trying to say. They can't just make something when they don't know what it is, however simple. :)

It's not a hard mod at all, you can buy acrylic cut to size although acrylic fabrication is not a problem ;). Some adhesives or screws and cut out the side panel how you want it. Making another side panel, especially to match the case would be serious effort so I would suggest modding yours, do it yourself or find someone. Perhaps you could get a replacement from fractal to try it with if your worried. If it's just a simple cut acrylic to size job then there is no need for any CAD tbh.

It's not that long ago I was in the same position with my 550D wanting a window for it, I got a modder to do it for me, was happy with it but decided one day I could get some satisfaction out of doing it myself. So I got another side panel and tried my hand at dremeling and with some patience, the right tools and actually no practice at all I did it.

I'm sure you can find someone closer to home than me but if you want any help with it let me know. There are plenty on the forums who will help too if they can stand you :D lol jk

Yeah yeah, I totally get that JR and I appreciate you taking your time to try and explain it to me :)

And I must say that I actually took the window off the Aegis side panel and gonna try to see if something can be done to it :p... but I highly doubt it ^_^

The replacement route I have actually been thinking about and gonna contact Fractal Design to see if that is possible :)

Haha none that I know of unfortunately... my mate is the only PC guy I know other than myself, but he is more afraid than me in actually building a PC :p

Any help with it, let you know?... as in what?, ship the side panel to you and you mod it? ^_^
Haha, I don't think anyone can stand me... surprised you haven't ran away yet, especially after those PM's !!!
