Anyone noticed that people have gotten so self entitled ?

I was paroosing Facebook today, Only on there for family as well as being subbed to OC3D and a few fitness pages.

I was reading some of my friends and family statuses as well as several comments on pages and I didn't really realise until lately how utterly self entitled people have become to the point of actually being worried for the future of modern civilisation and it's not just Facebook, In my work at the gym I hear people talk as if the world revolves around them, Demanding things, Thinking they are entitled to other peoples time etc.... It's insanity.

It's been like this my whole life. I live in the most self entitled state in the US and leading socialist enlightentment of the modern world. Not being political or choosing sides but objectively that's what is happening. With the influence the US has around the world it's no surprise that it's biggest most powerful state is also spreading it's ideals

The friend of mine over in Texas who has 300 acres of land and just farms it buys in bulk and only ever goes into town when he absolutely needs to, I can completely understand why he keeps the general public at a distance but it seems to have gotten worse lately which is worrying.

To be fair its not their fault it is because society has changed how people bring up children, essentially Bad parenting.

Coming last is good and getting participation medals
Being told they are special
You can be anything you want if you believe.
You can have everything if you want it hard enough.
Then in the real world its vastly difference, add in tech and social media needs its little wonder they now feel entitled.

My little brother recently posted something like this and I disagreed, He then went on to talk about the owner of amazon and how he started out with a tiny little box office, What he didn't know is his parents gave him a $250,000 loan to start the business, That's something 99.99999999999999% could never do so I think also in part this entitlement is down to a lot of misinformation.

I'm thinking social media overrepresents the issue as it gives exactly these people an outlet to vent about how unfair life is.

You never see someone who feels world doesn't owe them anything complaining on social media. I think whole Facebook caters towards unhealthy personality traits.

Yeah peoples attitudes haven't changed, your ability to interact with far more people far more often is what's changed, you're basically forced to see what the most annoying people in the world are saying every time you go online now.

If you actually ask most people between 18-21 what they want when they grow up, the vast, vast majority, at least in Britain, literally just want some basic security regarding food, heating, ect, and will fully accept the fact that unlike the generations before them, the chances they'll own their own home or something like that before 35 are incredibly slim. Many of the people who complain about young people grew up in an age where they were entitled to far more, free education, abundant/cheap housing, secure/cheap food, guaranteed access to healthcare, ect. Now kids whos parents can't put food on the table don't even get a free carton of milk at break. The cost of living today for most items means that around 20% can't even secure the most basic parts of the list I mentioned, it's only the lucky who have the chance to be entitled, but they're the ones all over social media.

There is no such thing as "self entitled" its just "entitled" :D :D :D. I have no idea how the word self got thrown in to the terminology over the years. I guess I blame the movies !

It's social media that has taken entitled people to another level. The clamoring for attention from that 1 good selfie gets them the popularity, and suddenly they want more. Then it progresses to comments about their daily life, except by then, they have the followers.

People live two different worlds. One being online. And for those entitled people the line between the two gets blurred sometimes.

One thing I disagree on though. All the older generation stating they had it harder in their day and that the younger are too entitled. That is definitely a pile of BS. The younger generation now, have a far more stressful, difficult and tough life than when even I was young. I used to argue with my father about this alot while I was studying for my electronics degree, how he seemed to think I had an easy life focussing on just one thing...

Spot on mate.

This always annoys me. Why instead of teaching kids that they can do, have or be anything they want to be don't we teach that individuality is fine, some people are better at other things than others and wealth is easier to earn with grit, hard work and a sprinkling of luck rather than being instagram famous or a kardashian

I've been working in the fitness industry since around 2010 now and as I interact with hundreds of people per week I have noticed people think they are owed something, Attitudes have changed, Maybe a lot on here haven't had the same experience due to not working in a very social climate.

With respect from my experience what you're saying lines up very well with the impression I get of many people who'd consider themselves gym/fitness fanatics, are you sure it's not more just indicative of the industry you're in? I know theres many of you there who do it for enjoyment or good health and such, but I feel many more people get into that stuff for reasons of vanity. As someone in my mid-20's I know many people who are entitled and spam out instagram and stuff with their pictures in the gym, but they're all middle class kids from rural/suburban backgrounds, usually southerners(No hate lol just generally even more middle class), most young people find those people just as insufferable and detached from reality as anyone else and they're just the tiny vocal minority of a very big group that most our age just ignore. Of course, said group will dominate sites like Instagram that are literally designed for those people, which is why many people *shock* just don't own or go on instagram. However, I seriously doubt these kinds of middle class kids born spoon in mouth *weren't* entitled and insufferable 10 or 20 years ago, you could just avoid interacting with them easier.
