Hi guys Basically I need a bit of help.

The problem is I need to create a building site Progress sheet. But to get one made costs a fortune. It does not need to be that complicated. So I figured maybe Excell would be a good start.

Basically what I need to do is to creat a sort of calender, with the months of the year at the top. and the tyope of work going on on the left hand side.

Now the trick i need to know is, Can i make it so their are the exact number of cells under each months heading as their is days in that month. So November would have 30 cells. And each one of this cells would be shrunk down to say 2-3 pixels.

And then i will need 2 colums next to the work going on. one will be Date starting. And the other will be number of days it takes.

So basically when i want to do a programme for a new building site, I just write in Second fix Carpentry, in the start date 17/11/2011 And then in the amount of days, 4. But what i need is that when i write that into the spread sheet. 4 of the cells in that row will get shaded so the spread sheet will automatically shade in the 17th 18th and then "SKIP" the saterdays and sundays. and shade in the 21st and 22nd.

It sounds simple enough in my head. but i dont know enoung about excell to setup the spreadsheet and make the necisary formulas.

anyhelp would be great.

I think you might be able to do it using conditional formatting and VBA. But I've just been doing 3D matrix transformations in Excel and I'm in no mood to have a play with Excel at the moment XD

Have you checked out Microsoft Project? Im pretty sure that will do everything you stated in your post.

I personally do not know how to do it. But I find Lynda.com videos to be extremely helpful in learning such things. Try this link and see if any of these Excell calender videos help you out. The titles sound kind of like what you might be looking for, such as Creating custom date formatting CLICK ME
