.....lapped their GPU?

I'm definatly going to lap my CPU, H50 and touch up my mosfets and NB with new coolers/heatsinks. May even have a go at sanding down my NB chip

.

But what about my GPU. Just how safe and practicle would it be to lap my incoming Phantom Gtx 570 for example.

Not looking for extra perofmance or better temps necessarily. I just want to build a super-silent rig (i can hear my H50 P/P and Gigabyte 460 as we speak, and it's doing my head in). Better idle and load temps would allow me to run the fans on my GPU at lower speeds.

Would it be worth it to try? And how would i go about it if i wanted to give it a go.

Only guide i could find was this.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/howtolapvideocard/

And it doesn't go into much detail.

If you actually think about what you have to do to your CPU youll know its near on imposible to do it to a GPU

Meh.... i kind of guessed, i know it's not likely to be easy. I'm just the kind of guy who goes to bed thinking about how i can improve every aspect of my computer.

It's an obsession really

I probably won't be able to get it out of my head until i actually give it a go lol.

EDIT: Great site btw. Overclock3D rules

that would require some extreme planning and tools, you are likly to make it a whole lot worse. It would be near impossible to acheive greater flatness without resorting to some extrem measures, my advice forget it, get a watercooled system

Unless you have epic soldering skills and manage to get most components of the pcb except the gpu it could be possible, but the risk is to great and the weight of the pcb may be to much when sliding the gpu across the sanding paper. I concur with Milo, if you want better temperatures and less noise then invest in a good watercooling system.

Lol, Andramada flashbacks before trance lost her tail.

Personally I dont even sleeve cables because I like waranties.

Yup!

You could also invest in a good aftermarket GPU heatsink. Here are some aftermarket coolers compatible with a Gtx 460:

1) Scythe Musashi

2) Deep Cool v4000

3) Thermalright V2

4) Thermalright Spitfire

5) Thermalright Shaman

6) Zalman VF2000

7) Scythe Setsugen 2

As far as the H50 goes, fit it with Silverstone Air penetrator, or noctua fans. (they both are expensive though)

Cheers!
