Any problems with Mixing different speed RAM?

I read in Dav0s' sticky that it's ok to use faster ram than your FSB as the RAM will slow down.

Is it ok to mix sticks of different speeds?

My system has FSB of 133 and it already has 1 DDR-SDRAM of 512meg at 133Mhz. Will it be a problem if I put in, say, PC3200 RAM as it's cheaper than the PC2100?

Also, this is the bit I am most confused with - are all 184-pin DDR modules for fitting singular? Or must some be fitted in pairs?

Cheers all

it wont matter at all if you put the pc3200 in it will slow down to the 133mhz fsb

Cheers. My current stick is CL2.5 but the PC3200 ones I'm seeing are CL3. Will that automatically change to CL2.5 if it's running slower?

Never actually tried the config you're suggesting but I'd guess your new 3200 will SPD at CAS latency 3 - that's why it's cheap.

I guess it's better if I get the PC2100 at CL2.5 then as I'm not going to be using this RAM again (they don't make processors for my slot anymore and by the time I upgrade, I'll probably be using DDR-3).

Thanks all

The PC3200 should easily be able to run at cl2.5 if it's rated at cl3 for 200 fsb...

Go with the PC3200 so that when u upgrade mobo/proc you can keep that stick, toss out the 2100, and just pick up an extra stick of 3200.

I was having a quick tinker in my BIOS and it doesn't even show the RAM timings (it's a Gigabyte board), so I don't know if I can change them.

Update - I've gone for the faster ram. Hopefully it will all automatically sort itself out. Cheers :)
