Any advice on this build?

After hearing about the Ivy Bridge being a let down on the overclocking scene I decided to put a build together, i'm planning on a z77 board with a 2700k, I know I won't get some of the features that Ivy Bridge is offering but to me (and most on here) the overclocking capability of the 2700k is worth more than the features IB is providing.

Not on the list is a 200mm Spectre Pro for the front, a 120mm for the back and then 2 x NF-F12 PWM for the h100 (pull config).

Any advice is appreciated, this build has to last through my university years which will be starting next year, so this is it for a long time.

everything looks good, the only thing i would recommend you getting is a gold rated PSU, i used to have a HX750w, which i changed for the AX850, i ended up using less wattage on load and idle.

its worth the investment, not to mention the AX are fully modular with 5 year warranty!

+ if you like quiet, the AX850 doesnt even spin up on idle, only on high load!!! the HX fan annoyed me!

P.S. you could just get the 2600k, and save yourself some money, most 2600K's from what i hear actually outdo 2700k's in overclocking! + realisticly speaking what overclock do you want? 4.5? 4.8? most 2600ks can do this!

The HX comes with a 7 year warranty, and I can't really afford the extra 25 for the AX series, sound can't get any worse than I have atm, using Thermaltake Thunderblades which are loud as f**k.

Looks all good to me. One thing to mention though is look out for discounted Z68 boards, if you find a good one for an awesome price i'd be tempted to go for it

Yeah I was looking at the z68 boards and their prices haven't budged as of yet so i'm not sure if they'll discount them, changed the 2700k for a 2600k save 20 quid so that's alright.

What's the probability of Sandy Bridge discounting when Ivy is released? Will it be a few days after release or are we talking weeks?

Could be a few days, could be weeks, they could even get discounted as soon as the IB chips hit the shelves if you're lucky but it all depends on the retailer in question. Aria normally have some awesome prices, so check their site for sure

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Hi Andy, i would just like to point out that the nf-f12's in the roof will make the grill push up at the sides by 4mm which isn't that noticible this is becaues the top area is set up for a 20mm fan thickness it's the same sort of thing with the front fan which is also set up for a 20mm fan you cun fit a 25mm fan in the front but it will touch the hdd bay any less you move them to the middle, As all ready mention you might want to go for the ax850 or 750 as this will be just as good and will save you money in the long run, to get the most [/font]out of the ram i would get a copy of windows 7 professional as this does not cap the ram limit i.e(win 7 home 32bit = 4g for os and 8gb total /64bit = 4gb os and 16gb total) and i am only suggesting the lg ch10ls28.auar combo drive if you want to watch blue-ray,

Aria really are great but they don't have the 600t white, and don't plan on stocking it, I could get stuff from seperate retailers but I prefer to stick to one if you understand

the ax750 can run 2 graphics cards and in some cases the ax650 can aswell, the ax850 is good for 3 graphics cards and a good all round choice imo

My system with a 4.8ghz 2600k and a overclocked gtx570 pulls 550w on load, id expect a dula 680 system to pull ~700W on load all overclocked.

so i would recommend the AX850 as minimum, to be on the safe side

Right i've swapped the psu for the ax850, guess it's going to be good for years so might as well

going to save this build, might wait for IB release and see what happens price wise but I'll probably get this.

The HX series is perfectly fine, so as long as you don't need your PSU to be fully modular and you're fine with a semi-modular one i see no real point in spending extra for the AX, but it's your choice. A HX850 would be fine for 2 680's, a 750 might just be enough but don't quote me on that.

have you considered the i7 3820 cpu? you would get x79 pcie 3.0 and the 2011 socket instead of 1155 it it the same price as the 2600k actually cheaper atm where I'm looking.

I don't think it overclocks as well as Sandy Bridge and if I were to go with x79 i'd get the 3930k but that is over budget. I'm waiting for NDA on Ivy Bridge and seeing what's what with that and then decide whether to get Ivy or Sandy, people are saying Ivy can get 4.5 which is acceptable to me overclock wise.

Be sure to double check the power requirements before you purchase the AX 850. I think you would be pushing the limits of this PSU with 2 GTX 680's in this system.
