Antivirus?

Hey everyone,

Was wondering what type of antivirus are you guys running on your PCs? I have been running Kaspersky Internet Security for 2 years now and thought of maybe changing AV now that the time is running out.

Thanks,
Chrazey

I use Bitdefender and Malwarebytes not had any issues with just these few tools find they work well. Also a useful tool set called advanced system care, but make sure to update after a windows patch to the newer version to be safe kinda like cc cleaner but much better I find.

Malwarebytes and Kaspersky. Used to use bitdefender but got tired of them deactivating every valid key I bought.. switched to Kaspersky and it's good. Has notifications that are annoying but I turned off most of it.

I just use Windows 10's own antivirus with Malwarebytes and never had an issue I've found you just don't need to buy an antivirus anymore

Yup, same here too. I just run MBAM every time it wants to update (usually every two days or so) and Windows Defender :)

Before that I just ran MS MSE (security essentials, what has now become Defender) and MBAM.

Best thing you can do is 1) stay on windows defender (or MSE if you are on win7)
2) run mbam once in a month or so

3) Use common effing sense :)

Unless you need a firewall for some purpose then you don't need to buy an AV

And what is "common sense"? Not everyone here might be as experienced as you when it comes to this.

Common sense is: Don't run .exe / .bat / .cmd files that you aren't sure about the source or what program they are.
When you are online on facebook/twitter/youtube/e-banking log-ins make sure you see full green lock next to the https and click on it make sure it says DigiCert Inc, Symantec Corporation, Google Inc respectively.
That sort of stuff, nothing more advanced than that :) That's why it's called common sense.

an extra step would be setting User Account control to always ask for permission with a password for anything that requires admin priviledges

I don't use any, just keep malwarebytes handy just in case something doesn't feel quite right.

If you really want a good AV I would recommend staying with Kaspersky been using it for years and never had an issue, saved my backside a number of times too (oops)

If not just MalwareBytes free will do the job if you scan often enough

Hint : Just run a VM and open anything fun in there :D

Also this, I've ran a few "fun" programs in VMs and had some interesting results. I've got a pair of VM's just for it

Windows defender does as good a job as anything else i've tried, but it's less annoying. The only time i've ever had a virus was when i let my mate use my PC. Took him like 30s, no idea how he did it.

Usual case, it's why I never let anyone touch my RIG.
