I don't get why so many people are complaining about this or think it's so unfair.

Fact - you don't go out in public swearing like a sailor and you have respect for people you don't know very well or don't know at all. You don't swear at work unless you're a builder so why the need to swear on public forums?

Swearing is not allowed on practically every forum I visit. It's either censored out or you get a ban for it. On a couple of forums I frequent it's censored out and you get a ban for it.

Let's face it, it's rude and pretty chavvy to swear around people you don't know. I don't see why people see the internet as this lawless place where you can get away with practically everything.

Swearing is probably my worst habit.

If we do go ahead with this pay to get unbanned for cussing, we would need to make it explicitly clear as to what counts as swear, the tone, and the context of the word. Otherwise just saying(excuse this one time swear as an example.. don't ban me lol) " Oh, Shit! That's awesome!" would count. I don't think that should count as it's just expressing your emotions even if it isn't the best way.

I have an 11 year old Daughter and I would absolutely hate for her to come to me while I am on a forum and see bad language in threads . I was raised the the 1970's. The only swear word I knew until I was 12 was bloody and I wouldn't dare use it if my Father found out I was in for it .

I do think the swearing should be toned down on this forum but some people use it for expression i.e. Oh FFS i've just blown my motherboard up.

Yeah, Tolemac it's what we are talking about, I don't remember the last time when people actually started using swear words against each other, not even when "giatrakis" was messing around on the forums

I'd say some of us are mates Wraith, there are a group of us that communicate outside the forums so swearing at them is quiet common lol.

Linus is a bit of a turd but he's still the biggest hardware YouTuber so dissing him here just looks petty really.

Not dissing him at all, I just disagree with how he does some of his business, particularly, how it's funded. I am enjoying my right to free speech by saying so.

In one of his lastest videos he was just far too cavalier with the $4500 cpus and mobo and stuff. Got my back up a bit. I'm certainly not trying to be petty. But that stuff does wind me up.

I've gotta agree with that. It doesn't seem like he's got much respect for his hardware. Of course he's trying to be funny and all, but you'd never see Tom, Paul, Jay, or any other tech YouTuber doing the same as he does.

I don't really see an issue with him letting people donate. If you enjoy his content then its not really any different from paying for other content. If people choose to do it, cool, if not, cool.

People have Patreons and all sorts and I personally pay a YouTuber through Patreon.

Exactly, tying down a heatsink to a gifted $4500 CPU because you can't be bothered to wait for the mounting bracket, with zip-ties, and taking off the socket cover and brace..

it's just wreckless I used to enjoy his content when he was smaller, but the size of the place they basically kickstartered (without the kickstarter tax) via their own website.. just kinda makes me sick. There's no way they'd be able to afford the staff or the premises they have just bought if they went about it the usual business way.

I'm aware that that's "just how things are" now and internet sensations are still the booming industry and all that crap. But when you're in such a privileged position that you can legitimately call a company and say "send me 24 of your 1TB enterprise grade SSD's" and get free 4500 dollar CPU.. treat the stuff with some respect...
