User Infractions - They Are Back

Hey boys and girls, this is just a quick update to let you all know about a feature we are bringing back to the forums. It was always here before but we had some glitches with the system stopping it from working properly. Ive put some time in and got it working again properly and Ive given the mods some guidelines that need to be stuck to as far as enforcing it goes.

Basically what infractions does is either give you a warning - or a set amount of bad points for bad behavior. These points are all time limited but if you get 5 at any given moment in time then youre automatically banned. So if you have a total of 5 points for 3 days before one of them runs out then you will not have access to the forums for those 3 days. Its all very simple and means that the banning process is an automatic process.

If you accrue 5 warnings you will get a 48 Hour holiday in the sinbin.

Now before you run around kicking and scream, chucking all your toys out of the pram if you all get along nice, dont swear and generally try and get along then its not going to effect you.

The other good bit for the mods is by always warning you or giving you points via infractions we also have a log of whats gone on.

Yes its change but this is here to stay this time because we need to get a grip on certain things that have happened recently and this is the easiest way for the mods (who dont get paid I might add) to be able to manage the growing forums.

Something I do want to say though - if a mod gives you an infraction warning that is them being nice to you. If you then start PM'ing them giving them abuse and arguing then the warning will be changed to a full point.

This wont ever effect 99% of you but we have had to bring this into place to try and bring that 1% back into line with everyone else. Best advise is just be nice to each other and as far as bad language is concerned I know we (including me) all use it but a lot of time there is no need for it and certain people have been using bad language all the time and its just dragging the forums down. So its time for us all to make a conscious effort.

Written in a very PC way :D but I totally agree, that 1% not only spoils it for everyone else, but also can ruin what is a community of people brought to, and working together to help everyone who asks for it (politely of course :p).

I wholeheartedly support this :)

Fair enough Gov I must admit I've been guilty of the occasional naughty word but that shall stop now, as you say we can't let the best forum on the net degenerate.

Question are we allow to use the word "Bl**dy" or is that bad language that is why i put the stars there cause i am unsure

I totally support this :) this forum has some great people on it who are always willing to give advice. As a rule I do not swear on forums unless something has really angered me and although it is a shame to enforce this, it is necessary for the 1% of forum users as you don't 100% actually know what age a forum user is.

Even though I don't post often, quite the opposite in fact, I visit oc3d daily and like to read up on all things new. So in that regard I have to say I welcome this system even if I think this could be one of the rare forums where it is not needed.
From what I have seen members and mods here are some of the best you can find in the pc community. Keep up the good work guys.

Could you possibly publish a words list of words we can't use? I know it sounds childish, but I got a warning for using the word p*ssed, which I really didn't expect, as I didn't mean to be rude in any way. I'm not complaining about my warning, but I'd like to prevent myself from getting any infractions in the future ;)

Ive mentioned warnings above dude.

Sure, it was just a warning, but if I accidentally use "bad" language again, I assume that I'll get some points. Its just hard to know what is considered bad and good.

Youll get points for the bad language you wouldnt use at work, around your nan or to a policeman.

Its just about respecting others matey.

That's where I got caught off guard, because I would use that word at school or to policemen (not sure why I'd be talking to a policeman). I guess the word has different levels of rudeness, for lack of a better term, in different countries around the word. Perhaps people in the UK are less tolerant towards it or something, but alright. I'll try to speak on the forums like I'm talking with my nan then ;)

Maybe instead of a list of banned words how about a list of acceptable words as not everything is a cuss word in different English speaking countries.

P**sed for example is not a cuss word in America perse so an American posting that would get him/her a warning which in turn would annoy him/her and then he/she would avoid this forum like the plague for simply using an every day term and would probably tell his/her friends about it which in turn spreads a bad rep.

Little things like that really do matter and can have an impact.

Just an idea.

Doesn't bother me though as not swearing and being polite is extremely easy although again not every word in every country is a cuss word.

Thanks you, that's exactly right. I grew up in the US, so I guess that's why I don't consider that word to be bad. Kind of makes the rules unfair, unless there was some kind of word list.

End of the day boys this is in its infancy and things will evolve - words may get downgraded but we have to consider everyone not just a couple of people. Im certainly not going to write a list based on what I feel right now but I think Ive covered everything as best as I can in the original post.

Guys just go and ask your younger brother/sister/cousin/whatever just someone under the age of... maybe 5 and ask what words they think are bad, write them down and there is your list ;)

At that rate I'd get banned for saying "dumb" or "stupid" *awaits warning* ;)
