Andre's Z77 Personal Rig

I'm waiting patiently for the H220 to be released , from all the video's I've seen from the CES show, it looks pretty good. I hope it performs as good as they say.
They might have a problem with supply and demand , I see alot of people are waiting for it .

Same here! it looks really good I am very excited. I don't think they mentioned the brass fins of the radiator in the CES videos (maybe they did) but that sounds good as well.

Good performance there on your rig!

thanks :)

ah i can't even remember vista! not good times for sure :p even on high end hardware vista wasn't very efficient. windows 8 is similar than 7 on fast hardware(definitely lighter and faster on slower hardware though) , probably a bit faster in some ways, but the main things that i notice how are things like the much more detailed graphs when transferring data, and the amazing task manager that shows cpu/mem/disk/network usage for each individual application, background process and windows processes. i also really dislike the aesthetic of vista/7 and i think the windows 8 matte/flat/square sort of aesthetic is much more minimal and clean, i know i like the look of it a lot more anyway. going back to 7 felt really dated when i was logged in there fiddling with the samsung drive. i actually prefer windows classic theme much more over the win 7 aero and i actually use the windows classic theme for my backup windows 7 installation. price vise the $40 direct download is a good deal my sister got that and had a seamless in place upgrade. i got the disk for $70 on preorder and i understand the prices will be going up at least for the disk.

Prices go up to $200 in a couple of days for an upgrade. I love Windows 8 with a start button replacement.

I did a bit of work on the build a couple days ago.

i turned all the led's so they are facing in towards the case instead of facing out towards the hardware, this way it provides a much more subtle glow on the hardware instead of harsh bright light.

connected the front panel audio ports. i really like the look of a bunch of cables bundled together routed somewhere.

i removed one hard drive so i was able to only use the top 2 and button 2 sata ports and avoid using the middle ones because you have to route the cables either upwards or downwards and it looks messy.

i also removed the top hdd cage for better airflow to the graphics card.

I also gave the entire system a complete clean after I was finished with all of this.

cleaning the rig is always a good thing :)

yes, it was definitely time for a cleaning. i have also been working on the airflow and interior air pressure. removing the top hdd cage did help with the graphics card fan speeds quite a bit, and i have been running the front fans at a higher rpm than the roof fans to try and achieve a positive air pressure inside the case, but the fan controller is definitely not going to be staying, it completely ruins the minimal look of the front of the case, and it's completely unnecessary. i'm going to setup the fans with the motherboard again and use the msi software to configure the fan speeds (i know some people are against connecting fans to the motherboard too, but i'm not entirely sure why)

i dont know what got into me! fan controller is now gone.

I know exactly what you mean, the front of a case (in most situations) looks much better with less on it, in my humble opinion. Thats why I elected to go for a FD Define case for my latest build =P

i agree, i also don't like the design of many cases on the market--i like very minimal designs.

i don't know what got into me, i have been running without the fan controller for months now, i have no idea why i decided to put it back in, but that only lasted for a matter of hours. it's all empty again and i just set the fan speeds in the motherboard bios.

i know some people don't like connecting fans to the motherboard, but i don't really understand why not. i like having the ability to set it up how i want and then leave it for a long time, but still have the ability to go and tweak the fans speeds a bit if i want to, so i keep them connected to the motherboard.

i completely agree, however, that stand alone fan controllers are ugly and unnecessary and i will not be using only again in the near future.
