The US Army have announced the latest game to fly under the 'America's Army' banner, imaginatively titled America's Army 3. It will be available to download later this year, and as with the previous two incarnations, it will be free to download and play.

Why is it offensive? If they are going to include an opposing force in a game, then both sides should be playable. In any other similar FPS you can - look at the Battlefield series as examples. The US Army have reduced the conflicts down to a game, that's more offensive in my opinion, especially as the conflicts are still being fought.

Is it me or is this the worst recruitment idea ever. "Gee, I just died for the second time in five minutes...this is meant to be realistic...I know, I'll go and join the army so I can do this in reality" (was going to use real life but that would be short lived...I can keep doing these puns till I get shot BTW :-D)

hmm, i just think games shoudn't be made for those things, really, anways entering the army is a serious thing afterall, if they go to war you can die there.

also this article is remembering me from an old simpsons episode....a music like this... yvan eht nioj ...... (join the navy)

anyways i will download this thing and see how the game looks lol, if is possible to download outisde US lol

I did not mean to offend anyone. For this I say sorry.

It wasn't as offensive it's just that there is also Russia. Ok I'm sorry for that last remark anyways, I never like AA games.

It is, one of the reasons why they don't put blood effects in the game to deter possible recruits.

It is a fun game though. Haven't played since 2.6 because they messed up when they updated it. CoD4/5 is more fun though :worship:

I do not see how AA plays a more significant role than any other World War II based FPS out there? Whilst it is the intention of the American Army to recruit new candidates, by exposing them to an environment that emulates the battle field to their advantage, I doubt the same euphoric feeling of fragging terrorist and wanting to join the army is devoid from the other FPS choices.

For example, everytime I watch an army film, and you see all the army-talk, "Bravo 6, go" and they reveal technologies like Laser guided missiles and the others, I can't help but for that brief 2 hours be inspired to join the army. To blame a game to "trick" children to join the army is kinda far fetched, that, and there is nothing wrong in joining up to defend your country ;).

I come from a military family, I was an Army brat and I see absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to join up and have the utmost respect for those who are serving. I considered it myself when I was younger. I don't see where you got the idea that we were saying people shouldn't join up or they were wrong for doing so.

I have played the game and also enjoyed it, but I think that PC games should not be used as a recruitment tool for armed services. I think it's absolutely the wrong medium to be using. An armed conflict is never, ever an enjoyable experience, unless you have some major mental malfunction. Games are meant to be enjoyed, and that's where the problem is.

You mention films as a recruitment tool, well how many have you watched that have been produced for and bankrolled by the army, and specifically used as a recruitment tool? I don't suggest that the US Army is trying to trick kids into joining up, but to compare a PC game to real life modern warfare is absolutely mad.

I also think that you will find that there is much more to serving in the Armed Forces than a game or film could ever portray, and the army is pretty quick at weeding out the Rambo wannabes, who think it's just like the movies or indeed the games.

Heya stuartpb,

Don't get me wrong. My opinion on this issue is the same as how people blame video games for their kids acting out, shooting people, etc. Get what I mean?

It doesn't matter how or what a game potrays, one should use their own intelligence to assess it. Calling this game specifically as a recruitment tool is ironic, considering every other war based fps game is generally of the same idea.

I know this game is funded by the American army and all that but to complain (and I don't mean you, just google it and you will find hundreds of people blaming it) that this game gives a false impression of how war is and is not true, etc is a silly argument don't you think?

It's a game, for pete's sake. Does it say anywhere in the game that The events in this game are an exact replica of what men and women of the army face on a daily basis in the battlefield?

I completely agree with you that armed conflict is almost never a good thing. War doesn't show who is right, it shows who is left. I merely disagree with the notion of how people are quick to gut the army for sanctioning this game and using it as a tool to recruit. Call it an indirect recruitment tool.

As for the army, I'm well aware of how the Armed Forces work (not in America specifically) as every Russian citizen is to do his compulsory service, which I have finished, so I might have a slight idea of what's going on.

As for the movies, the fact that the army allows the director to use their {for the lack of a better name} hardware and gear it is implied that these are all to impress and attract.

To clear the air, let me reiterate, I am not saying anyone here is against joining the army, but I'm speaking from a general perspective of how i've read all around the web with peoples reaction to these new methods.

And in conclusion, the reason why this game does not feature gameplay of the opposing faction is simple; it's called American Army ;).

Cheers mate,
