AMD's Vega 10 GPU pictured at CES 2017

That's interesting they have used an air cooler and I thought the PCB would have been the same size of the Fury

It is a pre-production model, so everything does not need to be as compact. The length could change in the future.

just a shame they are releasing so late

Yes it is :( I am wanting to upgrade my 290X but i'll wait longer now as I have a freesync monitor plus I want to support AMD. On another note I was watching an interview on youtube with Raja Koduri and PCworldvideos which was very interesting

OK for all ya'll image perfectionists here's some 1080p close ups.

Watching that very video now
I won't buy Intel or nVidia again simply because of their attitude (or perceived attitude) to their customers.

Basically my thoughts.

But yeah this PCB isn't what you'll see at retail. It's still in testing after all;)

Cheers Wraith. I am guessing that blue thing on the end on the T shaped piece won't be making it to final production cards? it's awfully long with that on.

Nice to see no anchor though.

That's the USB thing that lets AMD read the power related stuff for testing and optimize the chip

So, the demo GPU we saw shows Vega 10 beating a 1080 in titles that usually favour AMD. Not amazing, but still good. The clocks aren't final for the reference design, which means they're definitely not final for the AIB partners. While it could be that the clocks were higher in the engineering sample than they will be in the end, that doesn't seem likely. This is also good. Then we saw the physical chip being held up by Raja or whoever having two stacks of HBM2. Unless those two stacks are only 4GB each (is that possible with HBM2?), the demo GPU we saw running Doom, Ashes, and Battlefront could be a cut down version of Vega 10 using a single stack of 8GB HBM2 (again, is this possible?). This means that Vega 10 could easily topple a 1080 since the cut down engineering sample with Fiji drivers can beat a 1080. And seemingly that's not even Vega's flagship.

I know someone is going to correct me so I won't even ask for a critique of my summary because it would be pointless. :p

Before summer 2017? Damn, that is almost half year still.... I thought it would rather close by now, but not summer this year.

In all fairness, I never put much faith in creators showing how their products beat those of the competitors. Of course they'll show situations where their new stuff shines, they're always biased to the bone.

It's a very American form of capitalism. They are always comparing their products to others and showing the other product in a negative light.

AMD usually always release GPUs in the summer dude. I think they have only showed it just now to try and keep the wolves at bay.

If I had a company I'd do it too; I wanna sell stuff right :D I prefer independent reviews and can't wait to see what Tom will do to it.

IMO i think that's way too late, If it's going to be Summer time well AMD just gives more sales to Nvidia.

This Vega GPU seems very niche to me. Let's face it fella, no matter what AMD do with GPUs they have lost before they even order the prototype boards.

If it's another land grab and the price is right it will sell. If it's another niche product like Fury? it probably won't. IE too high a price and HBM that is not of much use.

They just need to keep plodding on and manipulating the way games are made (IE console games) and then ported (well, not ported but compiled for a PC). Once that kicks into full gear AMD will have cards that will perform just as good as Nvidia cards that are much faster. The aim here is 60 FPS in DX12. Once they hit that goal? you really shouldn't need anything more than a modest AMD GPU to hit the target.

They are never going to beat Nvidia they simply don't have the funds. However, I expect their GPUs to get a lot better once they start making cash from Ryzen and all of the spin offs.

I've nothing against my Fury X, I just think it was too much too soon and lacks in certain departments (most notably VRAM and the fact it's got a radiator strapped to it).
