AMD vs Nvidia - GTA V Performance Review

Apologies for that, the reason it wasn't happening to me is because I actually had SLI disabled. Now I have enabled it both the usage and available values have been doubled so that is legitimate and not really a problem. I've printscreened all of my settings for you, it's running at 65-100fps but mostly sticking around the 75fps mark at 1440p.

ok i have replicated your settings (bar i have Nvidias PCSS for shadows), i am getting better fps now but not seeing past 80fps all that often an i am still at 1080p.

thanks for the help though, hopefully the next driver will bring better performance.

The good news is it runs easy maxed out @2160p on my PC and there is no problems with SLI.

The bad news is I can not play driving games using a keyboard.:(

Just for continuity I ran the benchmark with your exact settings at 1080p. Min 45fps, Max 115fps, Average (by eye) 75fps so not a whole lot different to 1440p. Considering 780's are a little bit better ;) and mine boost like mental under water i'd say we are doing very similar.

Haha aye thanks again for your help JR, just gonna get on with enjoying the game now I think haha. Will be online tonight if anyone's about

I preordered the retail but don't have a disc reader so I was gonna install it with the download installer, however when I was getting just 80Kb/s or something with an estimated download time of ~2 days I bought it on steam aswell and then I downloaded it in about an hour and half with ~30Mb/s :D
A little bummed that I couldn't use the retail key on steam and had to buy the game twice but oh well..
Getting good fps with my Asus 290X Matrix Platinum too :)

Wow. This game at 4k... Wow.

And it runs butter smooth too ! I've got all max settings with 2xmsaa (not even sure I need it at this res tbh) and it's stunning. Even the driving parts are as smooth as butter.

GTAIV this ain't !

I don't see how the GTX 980 can improve performance when going from 0xAA to either 4/8, thats on the page for image quality. Based off of those shots with FPS the 290x is faster too, when put in order.

Also on the scenery page, should label which side is which, or which shot is which. Otherwise its pointless to put the fps on there tbh. If its 290x left and 980 right, then you can't make the claim one is faster than the other. As the are both trading blows.

Normally you got excellent reviews but this one has some issues. Based off the the article the last page is hard to believe since other results aren't clear with the 290x winning in some of the shots. I know you don't favor any company over the other so i'm going to put this down as a whoops.

I don't know how all of you missed it? Unless you went straight to the conclusion lol

Fully maxed settings @2160p

First few minutes of the game up to shooting my way past the cops and getting into the car.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
31215, 482219, 31, 102, 64.732

to me the main difference here would be that you will get the R9290x for around the £250 mark where as the GTX 980 is still around £450 so to me I would still look at the R9290x

Well people buy gpus with different preferences and expectations. So price isnt always a major factor.
Besides we all know Nvidias 980 aint worth anywhere near what they are charging lol. Paid 900 a piece for mine at launch.

Nice to see the 290x is doing so well, might just reassemble my W/C setup and go back to trifire 290x if I get a lot of spare time for gaming.

If I getting a new card ASAP I'd get a pair of 290x 8GB as I keep running out of vram at 1080p with 3GB and I love the detail you can get from the shadows in this game.

+1 I would look for those too, would be a beastly overkill setup under water for the money.

Thats the plan for me if the 390x ends up crap. Hardline tubing, the full biz.

I'm relying on AMD not to do something stupid so I can avoid the statement I just made. Brave I know

I've seen this review posted by loads of companies, including AMD! Seems that Tom beat everyone else :)

I only knew of Asus & AMD - although that was because of me doing the leg work. Who else?
