AMD Radeon Branded SSDs

I had an OCZ petrol 64GB many years ago, that went into the boot freeze thing and curled its digital toes up, they replaced it with a Vertex 4 drive, and that been going strong ever since, and has been my main OS drive for a while now, I keep it updated with the firmware so there is no real issues with it, and the controller problem from what I was told was fixed just before OCZ curled their digital and literal toes up which was a shame as they had just managed to get themselves sorted out.

I can see these drives using the fixed hardware so there should be no real issues with them dying, and as long as you have recent backups (you do keep backups don't you? I know most of us get kinda lazy and stop making them these days) then there is no real issues. I tend to make a new backup everytime I install something and it is something I want to keep, so the OS backup is up to date when I reinstall every 6 months or so.

I think you were lucky with your drives then ;) and they won't have a perceivable (I think that what you meant to say) difference in performance, just longevity.

Yeah you were right... i misstyped it....:) I was never good in grammar even my mother thong as well... :(

anyone happen to know whether it will be using asynchronous nand, synchronous nand, toggle etc?

Power consumption not great but hey, the read and write speeds are pretty good. I do wonder whether which variant consumes 2.7W though.
I alse quite a fan of OCZ's barefoot controller, has served me well in the past.

Seems rather interesting.

But why take that chance with OCZ/Toshiba when one could get a surely reliable Samsung drive (for example)? To me, its not worth the risk.
Honestly I've had more luck with Toshiba's SSDs than Corsairs. Its all about pricing tbh. Samsung SSDs are often a little bit pricey for the size (imo worth it) so its more Kingston vs Toshiba.

Im curious as to which SSDs you have tried from Corsair barnsley, as I am actually in the market for a new SSD at the moment. I have always steered clear of Corsair, Kingston, Adata etc for some odd reason (dont ask I do not know).

When I saw the word "OCZ", i just stopped reading. Just watch the RMA numbers exploding

As long as you get the newer ones you should be fine, tbh I don't know if its because they are about 2-3 years old (this is at my work, where all our desktops have ssds). When I go back to work next week I'll give you the exact models although I don't think they're sold anymore.
Kingston and Adata are really decent as well.

Thanks, look forward to it, though since they are no longer sold I guess I wont be too worried about it. Also I know now that Kingston SSD's are pretty decent, however I still avoid them (must be some hidden trauma hehe)

Maybe it like my fear from corsair PSUs in the past. 5 years ago I bought a corsair HX850 and it was originally bad. I put it in to my rig and it just give me some electrical sounds and my rig wont start. Since then I did not buy any Corsair PSUs but in this June i bought my new AX1200i and I am really curious about it... I have no time to change my old Chieftec to it yet but the time will come..:)

So never too late to change your mind... :) ;)

I so hope that's another typo.

OCZ bought controller tech from other companies. They have a nice portfolio really. I personally won't touch anything with that name attached in any way. AMD will definitely have a lot to prove on release of these drives to win people in their direction IMO.

Nice to see AMD branching out a little even if they are just rebranded OCZ/Tosh SSDs.

INB4 Nvidia release SSD's as well :p

Radeon R7 Series SSDs

I was thinking of using this SSD as an "upgrade" for my laptop. I don't have the money for a brand new laptop and i am stuck on which to use for the money the Ocz Vertex because it has high read and write speeds or the radeon r7 SSDs that have higher iops for the money. the vertex has a higher capacity as well on Newegg and its a bit more pricy and the radeon is a bit cheaper but has a lower capacity. just wondering what i should do.
