AMD R9 390X Teardown Reveals a Complete R9 290X Rebrand

The only good coolers are the triple fan ones and later edition OC boards...all of course come with a fair mark up.

Nah, Sapphire's Tri-X or XFX's basic card are often cheaper than reference now and had been that way since the cards first got aftermarket coolers.

guys calm down. AMD is launching new GPUs and rebranding older ones with improved specs. Whats the issue? Nvidia launched a total of 2 GPUs last year and was still selling older cards for the rest of the lineup. The double standards thing is ridiculous.

Lets go back to bashing nvidia for lying about their GPU specs. Oh right, nobody cared (and people were even making excuses for it). We just cry about rebrands of strong GPUs that offer better value than almost all of nvidias lineup. Sheesh

I think you'll find it's AMD taking a lump of dog crap, putting it in a different box and yelling "new product" that's peeing people off.

And they keep doing it over and over. There have been three iterations of Bulldozer now, and whilst they were a weeny bit better they were still Bulldozer.

They're coming to market with one new product for people with more money than sense. I find that just a little bit annoying.

Um... that's nearly true for all chips.. Intel does that too...

Yup and they suck just as hard.

At least Nvidia, who I absolutely abhor, come up with an entire range of new silicon instead of sticking numbers on their old ones and shouting "Hey look NEW PRODUCT !"

They do it slowly, releasing the rubbish first, but at least it's all new. I mean look at the 960. Total load of crap, barely any better than the 760 and 670 but at least it was new and offered lower power consumption.

Thank you for the laugh^_^

Actually mate some of us on the forum RMA'D our GTX 970's for Nvidias lies myself included ;) and tbh as long as AMD have refined the 290X as to give better performance it shouldn't matter that much really

They rebrand yes.. the irony was in thinking they release new silicon everytime. Which was laughable.

So you're telling me that Maxwell isn't Maxwell?

I didn't say that they don't rebrand, I just said they do it less. As for missing the irony? I think you missed the sarcasm.

I hate all of these companies equally, but I hated AMD an awful lot less until a couple of days ago.

They've not been yelling about it at all. If anything the only yelling about it has been tech sites. AMD have been only talking about fury. Nothing else.

Nvid have done it loads, they generally move the naming down though where as AMD have almost puposely confused people by making the 290X the 390X - it will be a clusterfeck of returns for retailers once people know they meant to upgrade to Fiji

haha, lucky yous. In Australia most stores will not let you return a product for a refund just because you purchased wrong etc. Even then there is a 15% restocking fee and a whole lot of other BS.
