AMD may be bought out

As it's alomost plain silly to buy AMD's latest products, on a budget or not, AMD's got a future proof problem so their prices need to fall and the boss'll live on $100,000 yearly bonus instead of $1,000,000. Honest is the way forward they can survive and loose some or all of the greed. High tech tamagochi's maby

the quality level Intel refines is exceptional. Compare silicone vally to a foreign substitute chip manufacturer used for budget purposes and slap Intels i5 2500k price tag on top

Yeah but if what AMD are claiming bout bulldozer they should be near (performance wise) to the 1366 sandybridge counterpart ie. The lga 1365. Couple that with a great price tag (hopefully) and AMD got a winner. Another thing Im not a fan boy, I buy whatever gives the best performance at the time.

OK. Quality is important. Intel chips are lovely. NVIDIA chip are made abroad I think and look nicer than ATI/AMD chips, same for the reference boards. I have read some stuff about Bulldoser meaning it's close to sandy bridge though not better. The PC gaming market grows fast. It's evident loads of people are looking to build a gaming PC and it beats consoles and Intel and NVIDIA are prepared for the future of that giving excellent performance and quality at value for budget builders. Because Intel is richer they can afford to sell cheaper. Domination is coming to play

You have got to be kidding Dell have made Alienware just about reputable before they were bought their build quality was beyond appalling, customer service was frankly none existent and they were priced far top high. Dell at least have rectified most of the problems i still wouldn't buy one but Dell have in no doubt improved the company. As to Dell buying out AMD i cant see it plus Dell would then put themselves in an awkward position with Intel.

Problems, a lot of people say their new Alienware computers die right after warranty runs out, which isn't good.

Also Alienware is meant to be at the cutting edge of computer technology, yet they are still supplying computers with GTX480 and HD5870s. Yet they still want you to pay $500 for each card WTF?

Domination won't come to play due to governments and anti-monopoly laws. If AMD is about to fall out of the market, governments will subsidies it, so they can either continue R&D or be able to sell cheaper.

AMD is important because they keep Intel prices out of the stratosphere. Also, I like their prices and many of their CPU's are quite capable while being attractively priced. Sometimes, all I can afford to buy is AMD branded parts. If Dell buys them out it could run AMD into the ground and thereby allow Intel to charge whatever they really want to for their products because of a lack of viable competition. The same could be said about NVIDIA's prices too.

I see an acquisition such as this as a disaster and one that will turn the industry inside out.

if AMD did drop out of the market, they'd need to be replaced by a company thats equally able to compete....IBM comes to mind?

The market senses something is about to happen, hence the rise in share prices.

Dell really are in bed with Intel too much to be considering this, but getting cozier could be a possibility.

What would make better sense, imo, would be AMD speaking to a company about producing off the shelf complete pcs. Perhaps Dell are looking to assist with this. Apple could, maybe that's why they're being fingered in this charade. Nintendo or Sony or Microsoft could equally.

In fairness, AMD have the inhouse ability to make anything from a small form factor pc to a games console. Something I've been banging on about they should do for years. They'd not need much help from many people.

With the recent resignations of top key figures, something was definitely afoot.

so they need to make things from ipad equivilants, to mp3 players, to games consoles....

take on a few markets ...

that should gain them market share

Intel/ NV wont charge massive amounts for their stuff because they will then go out of business as no one can afford to build there own PCs or buy them ready made

I hope DeLL does not buy AMD! Chips would only work till the day after the warrenty runs out.

Ouch! That hurts, but it wouldn't if so many had not experienced this pain already. Three systems, bought for my kids on Christmas a few years back all died within three months of one another and all within four months after the warranties expired. I figured that it was punishment for being too lazy to build them myself.

Funny thing is that I have a Dell Laptop that's 6 years old and it still works perfectly. Go figure,........

Funny that, cos I was also thinking that they sell the best monitors in the world. And I can qualify that with experience of 1000s from many manufacturers.

Their monitors isn't their systems though, is it ? I agree with the monitors...Dell do some of the best (and most expensive) monitors out there. However, in their computer systems they use cheap hardware and parts and overcharge for service plans. Even when getting a top specification Dell computer, I can bet quite a bit that the motherboards and PSUs that they use are low spec and poor quality.

Saying that: AlienWare are okay and Dell have made them a little better (even if they do still overcharge by the thousands). Plus...my cheap Dell Inspiron 1545 lives on and on, and was fantastic bang for buck when I bought it.

Once again, though, I will stick to my previous post: It isn't going to happen.
