prices in the usa drop from 525 to 475 read more in the link provided!

I wonder if this is because of the 10-15% drop in price of manufacturing the 28nm chips or AMD just dropping the price, because if it's just AMD dropping the price when the 28nm chip price drop happens the price could drop even more.

play nice guys

try and keep this on topic as no one can argue that a LOT of people have been complaining about the price BUT I highly doubt that is why it is getting a price drop

or is AMD worried of what Nvidia have coming soon that they are dropping there prices just to be a bit safe.

But as Sieb said, 28nm manufacturing could be the reason or to get more people to buy it when launch and slowly, very sneakily raise the price after.

Im not too sure tbh

I reckon it could also be that Nvidia are going to drop the price of the 580, they will have to really because they won't have anything to compete against the 7970 so I reckon there will be a 580 price drop.

Whether that is the reason or not though, it's all good either way, because it means cheaper 7970s and if there is a 580 price drop it means cheaper 580s as well.

I don't think it's anything to do with Kelper but you never know Nvidia could have something up their sleeve but even if they do I don't think it will be anything that will give the 7970 a run for it's money because the high end Nvidia cards aren't due till after the midrange which are supposed to be coming first.

But it's all good either way, lower prices is all good for the people that will be buying the cards.

Deleted all off topic or potential flame war starting posts.

If anyone continues to post about in the manner above I shall be issuing some warnings and I may even start sending you on holidays.

You have been warned!

^^^^ Remember boys and girls Strawbs is a mod here. From what Ive seen of the deleted posts Id have been slamming you all with a lot more than warnings.

Be like nice children, I dont like naughty boys and girls in my play ground.

Not intent to start anything, but I think AMD is buying customer's love (and it's working). This price drop is freaking sweet IMO. You'll only see this price drop if your preferred e-tailer decides to pass it on to you. I may wait for the 78x0 or the 77x0 cards to arrive in February, but only if they fold well. (if they don't have a high PPD, I'll have to go nVidia)

seeing as this news has made its way fully around the internet i think most if not all will drop the prices BUT not fully the the prices are meant to drop about £50 but I recon we will see a average of about £20 knocked off depending on where you shop

I may even start sending you on holidays.

If your paying I got a few places I'd like to go

hopefully they will also drop the price of the other cards on the market slightly to allow people who dont have alot of money to spend or are on a tight budget to get something with a little extra power

amd are scared, they have tried to rattle nvs cage with their new cards and nv are still sat all quiet n shit smiling.

amd know nv have something good coming at ces :thumb:

If they've dropped prices in anticipation of Kepler, then it's only to maximise sales of the 7970 in the short term. From reports, Kepler should be at the same level if not a bit better than the AMD 7xxx series, it's just it will be a few months before they come out. And there is already intense interest in the 7970, I think the sales will be OK anyway, the main thing holding them back imo is more likely to be that people already upgraded recently to the nVidia GTX 5xx or AMD 6xxx series of cards, so a new upgrade might not be worth it. Of course many will also wait for Kepler, makes sense as nVidia did really well with the last gen of GPUs, the expectation is on them to deliver I suppose.
