Amd Bulldozer cpu

is it worth getting Baby BD this year if the better bd's are coming out next year? and even new 3rd generation bulldozer line for 2013. a new bd every year. But wouldent the first bd 8 core be good enough for about 3 years then a new build?

I wouldn't call it a baby BD. This year is 8 cores, next is 10 cores, then 20 cores. With a few other perks. The you'll be able to get the FX-8170 which is a 3.9ghz 8 core with a 4.7 turbo boost. There is nothing baby about that.

but they are not out until next month (or later)

the Llano APU is babyBD (which is out now)

... and not worth it (IMHO) for serious gaming or workloads.

... and AMD suggest using a 'discrete' 5xxx or 6xxx GPU with it for getting decent FPSs (or eyefinity)

read the (asterixes) *'s here: http://detail.zol.com.cn/picture_index_682/index6818531.shtml

AMD don't even guarantee OC the llano

I am not talking about Llano. What will be released in September are NOT APUs. They are AM3+ Bulldozer CPUs only. Just go to that wiki article you posted yourself. I don't know were you are getting that i am talking about APUs from? I am referring to the full fledged 8 core CPUs come September 9th. Also again it make absolutely ZERO sense that ASUS would release a Formula board if the new AM3+ chips could not be OCed the S### out of.

omg - the CH5 is NOT a mobo made for BD. they added 'compatability' as an afterthought through a BIOS update.

without that BIOS, the BD will NOT run on that mobo

so, with that said... BIOS is software that allows hardware to 'handshake' with each other.... in other words BD will work on the CH5 (but will be limited)

limited!!! yes - because other hardware (mobo architecture) that will enable BD to perform to its best is not present on the current CH5

990FX is equal in crossover terms as the AM2+ was.

it is not my fault that you (and others) were itching to upgrade, and had to readies to burn.

Asus loves you - lol - they made a BIOS (dangled carrot) to entice you to go BD early.

you bit! they now have a little more money to help develop CHVI (i predict it xmas2011)!!!

perhaps when this happens you will realise................

i dont want this conversation to go the wrong way or nothing. I am just not seeing any proof. I am not calling you stupid or anything, I am not going to be ignorant and say things "I wont believe not matter what." I just have a hard time believing that AM3+ boards releasing a few months before AM3+ chips are not native BD supported? The Socket itself is also different than AM3 not counting color but pin count. And there are no AM3+ chips on the market, and Llano Chips are ONLY FM1 sockets. So what the hell was the point of redesigning a AM3+ socket if it does not Nativity support anything above AM3? What you are saying makes perfect sense with some of 890fx boards that can use Bulldozer with a BIOS update. but not 990fx boards.

Hi I work for a major hardware manufacturer and the procs I believe which are being mentioned are for the server market, the 990fx boards will work with all the bd procs including the fx 8170 which is coming out next year.

hopefully i will get my hands on one in work in the next couple of weeks, but it depends will really need to brown nose some of the reps lol but i dont think i will see one until we order a batch in, then it will be my mission to see how to break one lolz

Good stuff tonkin, looking forward to your review

lol if tom wants will try and find a decent one, but hopefully the system guys will get a thew and rawz will find a epic overclock with one, will see. but alot of us in aira are getting excited for it. hopefully this amd gets its overclockability back not like the ones now

i am going to wait until the successor to the 990FX mobo comes out.

isn't the 9-series FX mobos only AM3+ ?

i am not going through the same heartache as i had with AM2+ mobos!!!

hexacores where limited on the AM2+ mobos, but unleashed on true AM3 boards... i feel the same will be true with the 9-series.

i am going to wait until xmas-ish, and a new mobo/chipset will unleash the power of BD even better
