...learned about some new details on 80nm R600 today and there will be 2 SKUs at launch; XTX and XT. There will be 2 versions of R600XTX; one is for OEM/SI and the other for retail. Both feature 1GB DDR4 memories on board but the OEM version is 12.4" long to be exact and the retail is 9.5" long. The above picture shows a 12.4" OEM version. The power consumption of the card is huge at 270W for 12" version and 240W for 9.5" version. As for R600XT, it will have 512MB of GDDR3 memories onboard, 9.5" long and consumes 240W of power. Lastly, there is a cheaper R600XL SKU to be launched at a later date...

...heard the same thing as INQ about a R600 water-cooled edition. According to INQ, two companies are competing to make the cooler. One is Aavid and the second is Denmark-based Asetek. The water cooler has both water pump and the reservoir on the radiator so the card will look similar to the other cards, just with bigger radiator, powered with fan, and a reservoir. Also ATI is preparing for a GPGPU product, the FireStream/Stream Processor board with no less than 4GB of local video memory. The design is a variant of its upcoming top-end 12-inch design. This board will feature only one DVI connector...

...learned about one more critical detail about the R600. The chip can and will support Quad setups. It will work with four cards. ATI has been working to solve the four card performance problem for a while...

...has gotten some concrete information on the process technology and memory interface of RV610 and RV630. Both will be based on 65nm process technology from TSMC. RV610, the low end version will only have 64-bit memory interface and we have told you earlier that there will be 2 variants at launch; RV610LE which is DDR2 based and RV610PRO which is DDR3 based. The RV610LE card has 4 layers and consumes 25W of power while RV610PRO has 6 layers and consumes 35W of power. RV630, the mainstream version will have 128-bit memory interface and comes in 3 variants; DDR4, DDR3 and DDR2. The power consumption stood at 128W, 93W and 75W respectively. There will be samples in March and expected launch in April...

I'm sorry but that's far too extreme, ROFL. And we were shocked by the size of the G80's

Rumor has it that the retail version of this card will only be 9" or so however, and that the test card shown is something like 12-13".

Indeed, but if you look closer...

As you can see the card itself is not that long, it's just the stupid fan.

Exactly, but you can't exactly run the card w/o the fan (unless on water or something obviously) :p Thus making this card uber long...

The launch partners are supposed to be getting some in time for CeBit but I have heard that they are still waiting.

Stupid power consumption, ridiculous OEM cooler and a water-cooled retail variant? Can anyone say RMA ;)

this thing is probly the hottest running card we have ever seen... once i see a comparison between this and the g80 ill decide if its worth the HUGE size of this thing... 2x 8800gts for me at the moment probly... thats if its worth the SLi and how much they will cost and how much better the r600 is

thats just insane

aside from needting to take out a morgage, for a bigger case

and another, for a powerfull psu,

and another for the card itself, you'll be left, with no money :( ...that isnt good

What are they thinking?

I thought ATI was known for there cheap but good cards.. :(

Not anymore..

Not really

You are quite sadly a very big nVidia fan...read some more and branch your ideas out. ATI are a great innovative company who make some awesome hardware

Sorry Kempez...

I was judging one the x1900s.. Some I have seen go so cheaply and well what can I say.. They are really good performers! :p

When they came out they were ~£450 as far as I remember

so i guess this is why the OEM cooler is so big

"the OEM is that big to fit into special PCI mounting slots at the opposite end of the PCI slots. They've been around for ages and do a great job, its just that after a while they got dinosaured out because nothing was long enough to need them." -XooM from TPU
