Yes its another, mate asked me to help him fix his machine. Man Im so old and out of touch with all this new fangledness :-(
The hardware, all from Specialtech (with discount

MSI K9N Platinum AMD M2 940
AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ 512K SKT-AM2
Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0
OCZ 2gb PC4200 Value Series Dual Channel DDR2
The problem:
I've installed everything and the motherboard appears to be dead. It is not posting at all. Fans, HD, CD drive all come on but no video and no beep. I can only think it's the motherboard.
It is powering on – gets as far as the memory test before halting. No Beep. Fans/HD/DVD all run fine. The LEDs say it’s a memory problem.
Right - list of what I have tried:
Unplugged video card (sparkle 512 mb
6600GT)
Unplugged TV tuner (WINTV-NOVA-T, Hauppauge)
Unplugged Linksys wireless pc card
Unplugged hard drive (ide – 500GB)
Tried memory in all combinations of banks
1&3 2&4 1, 2, 3, 4.
Unplugged DVD drive (SONY)
Unplugged card reader
Power comes through, fans work, dvd drive
starts as well as HD. No video, no beep, hard rive light goes out, then
nothing.
Stops on LED 2, 1, 3, 4 are red, 2 is
green, according to the motherboard booklet that is a memory error.
All that is plugged in now is:
24-pin power connection to mboard
4 pin 12v power connection (2+2 block)
1 memory bank (yes tried it with no memory!)
CPU + Cooler
Fans (Connected to mboard = CPU + 2 case fans)
Still the same, at no point has there been anything but the same reaction as above. All points to a duff mboard to be honest. But let me know what you think
