So my 64GB USB drive arrived so I decided to use the recovery image backup tool. When I select to do it via USB it just asks to insert a USB stick and click next.

The drive is plugged in but next is grayed out. Windows detects the drive and I can view what's in it etc but I can't go any further in that program. Tried it in USB3 and USB2 ports to no avail.

Which format did you use? FAT32 or NTFS?

Was originally FAT32, that didn't work then formatted it as NTFS and that didn't work either. One of the guys here mentioned MSI has their own one but I have yet to find it on my laptop.

I had that happen to my sandisk usb drive after i did the same thing. I tried a lot of stufff like gparted, low level partitioning under linux enviroment, hp download tool and using the windows partition manager. nothing has worked thats why i don't use sandisk usb drives anymore. What is the brand of your usb drive?

what partitions/unlocated space can you see for your usb drive under partition manager in windows?

I have found with the sandisk USB drives I have had, and still got lying about, that 8GB sticks register as usb sticks, 16GB or higher tend to get recognised as drives instead.

Not sure if this is just a sandisk issue, or whether others are the same as I only got 1 stick over 8GB as I never had any real use for any bigger, and that 16GB was only cus I needed new 1 and got it same price as an 8GB :)
