Almost done with upgrade. But what about GPU?

Hi there,

I spend around just shy of 1200 pounds upgrading my computer. It was quite a journey and I love the result. The specs are as followed:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K running at 4500 MHz
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB (2400 MHz)
Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H110 with 2x Noctua NF-A14 FLX + 3x Corsair Air Series LED AF140 Quiet Edition (Blue)
System Drive: Samsung 840 Evo (256 GB)
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000
Case: Corsair Graphite 760T

Apart from that I have a XFX Radeon HD 6970. I need to upgrade that but what should I get? I bought Metro: Last Light a while ago - but couldn't play it to my satisfaction. It's better now but I still can't play on highest resolution without extreme lag. So basically I need to play all today's games and upcoming games on ultra if you will. It must be an Nvidia (like 780Ti) - I'm done with AMD. I plan on going SLI - but not an requirement if I could avoid it. Is the Asus ROG Matrix 780Ti overkill - or is there just better graphics card out there? Should I go for ROG Striker 760 and go SLI later - or what should be the plan. Please help. Money is no issue - I can always save up for hardware - but I won't buy any graphics card just for the sake of spending money. Thanks

If you're going to buy a graphics card, just get the best one you can. So I'd say just get a 780Ti since that thing is a monster

I would just wait it out for the GTX8xx serires. Finish any games you have. Enjoy them, and then go for the next GPU especially if you are just planning on running a single card. I just built a rig at the start of the year, and now I regret no waiting for these new releases.

When can we expect those? Never heard about the next series

So you'll be wanting to go SLI then to cover you over 2 screens at Ultra graphic settings.

The 780Ti is a good choice as you have decided against AMD cards.

with new mobo's for the new processors and new sata standards and new ggb5 ram etc etc, I am sure we will see new GPU's along with all the rest.

Well... the hardware world is never ending. If you want the best of the best you would be upgrading non-stop. I love my rig though and I'm not seeing an upgrade in the next... 5 years... and then it should be an upgrade for the GPU only

A different forum said this http://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=06g-p4-3787-kr what you do you think? Will I be able to play all games on highest setting?

It depends on the efficiency of the games optimization of course for example the Metro series has always struggled even when you throw $3000.00 worth of cards at it.

That said, in most cases it will be able to max them yes, especially at 1080p. However the extra 3Gb or RAM does not make it a Ti/Titan so don't expect it to keep up at 2440p+ with those two beasts.

Care to quantify that statement?
You get better performing cards for cheaper. Not to mention cards that run cooler and quieter. The ACX cooler also tends to fall apart from what I've seen as well (the fan bearings usually). EVGA's customer service may be great (as is their RMA support and general friendliness towards watercooling), but their quality control isn't always as good. IMO its f***ing dreadful but that might be down to personal experience.
