All rear usb ports stopped working

Just had the weirdest thing happen . I was streaming a movie , and dossed of for about half an hour , so I grabbed the mouse to rewind a tad , but nothing happened . I then noticed that my keyboard lights had gone off . So I dug out my spare mouse , and that was dead too . I went through all the ports front and not one was working . So I removed all devices , and done a hard shutdown . I then restarted , and one by one plugged each device in . And low and behold , the drivers installed and they work again .

Any idea what could have caused this to happen ?

are you using the power option or balanced option in power management in windows?
a lot of the time, when the PC sleeps or goes into hibernation, the peripherials do disappear.
you can adjust your power profile to not switch USB..

It didn't go into sleep mode mate , I did . It happened during a movie , and when I woke up , they wouldn't work . I have a custom plan for the power .

This happened to me before with my old Asus P5KPL-AM. All i done was a re-install of windows and it fixed it for me, not sure if this would for you or if there are other easier ways around of it

It's all fine now . All I done was disconnect everything , done a hard shut down , restarted , and plugged everything back in one buy one . And bamb , everything fine again . I think it is just one of those random things . I'm sure it was the gremlins . :microwave:

Update time it happened again . This time I put the rig to sleep last night , fired her up this morning , and nothing . I also noticed this time I had no internet connection either . There was a big red exclamation mark where the monitor picture should be . Si I unplugged all devices , and done a hard reset again and they installed and it is working fine .

Strange how this is happening . One thing that could be linked is , I cannot get my mouse to wake the rig up out of sleep . I have done all the usual settings here and there , checked all the boxes that need to be checked , in the bios , and in the os , but it will not wake up . That's with either the keyboard or mouse .

That's the only way I'm able to wake it mate .

So not a cold or hard boot necessary. Looking for clues. If that is the case then it would then seem to be totally a USB issue.

In that case it sounds like maybe something auto updated and the new driver is screwing things up. That could explain why it suddenly started happening. Maybe try going into Device Manager and go to each device, mouse first and keyboard and see if the Roll Back button can be clicked to go back to the previous driver. See if that solves the problem. If the Roll Back button is not clickable that device has not been updated.

I don't like anything to auto update. I like to be informed an update is available and then I'll do it. A problem then comes up I know what probably caused it.

The first time I had to do a hard boot , that was when I was watching a movie , after about half an hour no usb device in any port would respond . Then this time it was after it had been put to sleep , I pressed the power button the rig powered up as expected but without any usb devices working . So 2 totally different times for it tom happen .

My updates are set to let me choose , and nothing has gone on in about 3 weeks . I will check and see if something has slipped through though .

Just checked device manager , and it is as I thought nothing to roll back to .
