All PC Gamers Are Pirates Says Ubisoft Executive

Well that's a very hard subject to debate. You could either argue for the developers losing out on money or for the consumer's right to share what they own. When games were still distributed on a physical medium game sharing cut devs out of money, but because of the restrictions of borrowing a game i guess that was a price the devs were willing to pay. In the digital age there are no restrictions to sharing your games with your 'friends'. Where to draw the line is hard to determine, but i think i'd rather have the single license model Microsoft is pushing than the 'muh freedom' approach a lot of gamers take.

Single license is ok if they reduced the cost of games but it's Microsoft so not much chance of that. I think they planned something like steam on the X1 though I could see harddrive space being an issue on a console.

Only a very small minority of pirates actually buys the game after pirating it.
Still don't see why youtube doesn't suffice as a source to get a first impression if that is all they are trying to achieve by pirating the game.
Other people are paying full price to play the game on release day while some pirates steal it and then buy the game later usually for a cheaper price, that's not fair either.

Look at shadow of mordor the YT's who played it had to agree not to show any bugs and not say anything bad about it b4 they were let early access

"We" only Pirate games we want to play but either dont want to pay the full price, or dont want to help a company like ubisoft with our money. Another thing is many PC gamers dont even have the money to buy games, but its a passion of those too, so they use the ways they can get.

According to that logic I should also steal computer parts from my local computer store. After all I don't want to pay full price and it's a passion of mine. I also like cars, perhaps I should steal those too.

-------------

I deleted every game I decided not to buy. No damage was done.

Not true, If you steal or "borrow" the game that is money the company just lost. You deleting it doesn't replenish the cost of the loss. It still gets marked as a loss, unless you contact the company proving to them you deleted the game after you "borrowed" it.

Well his logic is bad but so is yours. There is no way you can compare pirating games to actual stealing, like pc parts of cars that you mention.

My logic is fine, stealing is stealing, it doesn't matter what it is. Pirating/stealing a game IS indeed "actual" stealing. Pirating a game is no different than me going into a GameStop and taking games off the shelf.

No it is not. It is a bad thing to do, morally wrong I admit I used to to do when I was younger but haven't in a very long time but it is not actual stealing. Even in the case you mentioned, game on the shelf costs money to make.
CD/DVD/Blu-ray cost money, burning the game costs money, making the box, shipping....every one of those things cost money. I won't even mention how much it costs to produce a car or any other real, physical thing. By stealing those the company is losing money because they are not just losing potential profit but also the cost of manufacturing process.

Want to add something, so there is no misunderstanding I don't condone pirating or justify it in any way just wanted to make a point why to me pirating is not the same as stealing. Also I apologize for my english.

Price to make something is irreverent to my logic. The point is stealing is stealing, it doesn't matter if the item is $1,000,000 or $50. It's still stealing. Just the scale is different.

Then I have failed to make my point but I'll try an another example. Not a good one and but here it goes.

A car at a dealer costs 10 000$. I steal 5 cars, simple math says I stole 50 000$ worth of goods.
A game on Steam costs 50$. I pirate it 5 times. Now the question is how much did I steal? 50$, 250$ or 0$(in case I had no plans to buy the game at all).

I know that the thing in brackets opens a whole different discussion but I don't know how to better explain why, from my point of view, pirating is not and will never be the same as stealing.

Dictionary.com

Steal:

to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, especially secretly or by force:

It doesn't matter what the cost is or what it is. If it does not belong to you and you take it without permission IT IS STEALING! Even if it was $0 If it does not belong to you it is stealing.

I deny that I in any way shape or form had anything to do with not backing captain sparrow and can wholeheartedly say that I took no part in the loud cheering as the company went out of business....

The rum however was exquisite !

I posted this on the ocuk forum as well and they banned me because the video had adult language in it even though I said -

*WARNING, GROWN UP TALK IS USED IN THIS VIDEO, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*

it's like that forum is run by a bunch of kids.

I see the problem........

Someone got banned from that forum by one of the mods for saying "Oh crap", Shows you what type of people are in charge, Hardly human.

I guess its run by people who have nothing to do in life that they find pleasure from banning people whenever they can. They are the same kind of people as those who beg for mod in twitch chat...

You've hit the nail on the head bud, I've been a member of a lot of forums, My only 2 main ones being here and OCUK as that's the main place I buy my stuff from and I have never seen mod behavior like on their forums, 1 game focused forum got close but no one can top the behavior of the OCUK mods, They have this worrying attitude of "Well I have the power to ban people so I will exercise my ability to it's fullest instead of doing the grown up mature thing and talking" it's so sad and pathetic.

Those kinds of people really piss me off. I guess they are around my age (14-16) and online is the only place where they have some form of power. Its especially cute when they start using all sorts of formal language like "Ooh, it appears this is an infaction" and all that. Usually its not even justified. On most forums having a decent rant or a bit of good banter will get you banned.

I'm tired of it to be honest and I'd love to know how the hell these kids get positions of power when they obviously have no clue about life and have little experience on the matter

Probably the kids of the people who own the site which makes it even worse, In my book you should have to be at least 25 to be the mod of a forum, I know we have some under 25 mods on here but they have proved to be capable.

The reasoning behind this is if you're still a teen/early 20's you haven't experienced life enough and you will make very stupid decisions that end up annoying the crap out of people as you simply don't know any different.

To be a mod one should be extremely tolerant and not go in arse first, Analyze the situation, Talk to people, Not just go "Hey I have a ban button and I'm going to hit it because I can".
