After owned single core A64's for the last 3 years or so I decided to have a go with the new fangled quad core stuff..
I somehow found money for:
Q6600 GO CPU
Abit IP35 Pro
Corsair XMS2 Pc6400
Scythe Mugen
SATA DVD Drive (which I can't yet use
)
Scythe Kama Bay (again can't yet use)
Just like a kid at christmas I chucked the wrapping off everything before I knew it my student penthouse suite was full of every packaging ever..

The intel heatsink mount is pretty good IMO and feels more secure and fits easier than my old 939. Get Sharkoon fan straight on.

Severe lack of clearance there..

Old system about to be torn apart. I'm keeping all the drives due to lack of funds, the faithful Hiper PSU, Sharkoon case fans and of course the Antec case.

Fairwell 939 :worship: :worship:

Case after a half arsed hoover and wipe combination attack.

In it drops without too much fuss.
Then comes the fuss. I realise my new SATA DVD drive needs a SATA power dongle. Sadly the ones for my PSU are at home.. so I have to push all the cables about to get the dvd drive to work to install windows. However my usb keyboard didn't want to work anywhere past the BIOS. I had to hunt my flat for anyone with a ps2 keyboard but luckily got my hands on one.

Alive and successfully spinning
Mr Smiths old 7900 GTO still going strong. And getting in the way of cables. My half assed cleaning job is pretty evident..

Pretty handy sticker

First 3d marks run with everything at stock.
Well so there it is. I'm pretty happy with the change from a single core, the computer just feels so much sharper. Starts up so much faster, games load faster, brilliant.
I will have a fair punt at overclocking it and some point
And I'll be looking to get hold of an 8800 gt and Vista around christmas. Until then I've still got to complete Doom 3.
Before I forget, I'd like to big up bleach. Its an awesome AS5 remover. And color remover from my shorts.
Big thanks for all the guys who helped with the spec in my other thread
BUMPED
January.. tuesday. New case time:
Got my new case delivered today, had to lug it up to room. Then I had to tidy up to have any room to do anything, but... here we are:

Bit of a task hiding all of the numerous cables from the psu round the back, but managed to keep it neat enough.

Hard disk area, kept the front LED fan as I don't have enough here with me. Got a couple more 1000rpm Sharkoons to stick on the front then one on the side sometime soon.

The insides.. Not sure if it's the best orientation for the cpu cooler. To be honest it doesn't need the fan anymore, I didn't notice the fan wasn't plugged in til I checked the speeds.. The Xilence red wing fans are ace, nice, cheap and quiet
Need to braid a couple of the fan cables when I'm home.

Note last years Family Guy calender..

And one more for luck. Also proof of my tidying on the left
That should be my lot on the hardware front for now. I hope.. need to sort out the memory sinks on the graphics card, got some thermal tape coming this week for that.

Happy with the OC I've got on the cpu, 3.2 with stock voltage
Just a quick 3d marks run with the temps:

January.. 23rd.. Should be revising.. really should be revising, but anyway..
Didn't really like the funny looing wavy plastic grills on the case at the top and front. I set about hacking them off the other night, would have loved to do it with proper tools but a kitchen knife did the job.

Probably need to get sand paper type stuff to smooth off the stubs that it left but I'm happy with the results. More air seems to be coming out of the top now
Might end up painting the insides of the case, as you can see a bit of grey poking through around the front.

Swapped over the psu fan, pretty undecided right now on it. It doesn't move as much air as old fan used to, I'm pretty sure the psu doesn't ever ramp up its fan speed as its never under a decent amount of load. So I may drill a hole in the psu casing somewhere and route the fan cable through and stick it onto one of the motherboard jumpers and run it at 12 or 7 volts whichever works best.
Whole system is very quiet now and I'm getting good temps. Very happy now with it allround.
Next on the list is to sort the cable routing, by chopping some of the motherboard tray apart, a bit like prosser13 has done here: Holes
I know the case is made of steel, so what kind of tool is best for chopping it up?
Got a jigsaw and drills and angle grinder at home if it comes to that..
Cheers!
