Hey guys,
I already have a computer that I built 2 years ago. My motherboard died recently so I want to replace it.
I have a corsair 800D Case, 970 CPU, ASUS Rampage III Extreme, Enermax 1000W PSU, GTX 580 GPU, 2x1TB HDD's, 3X4GB DDR3 RAM, etc...
I was looking at new motherboards and I really like the Sabertooth but should I buy the 1155 (Z77) or 2011 (X79)?
I will keep the GPU, PSU, Case and RAM.
I'll buy motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, Intel 520 SSD and Optical Drive.
If I buy 1155 motherboard with 1155 CPU it'll cost me $350 less than buying 2011 CPU and motherboard.
So the question is should I get:
ASUS Sabertooth X79 Motherboard with Intel Core i7 3930K
OR
ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard with Intel Core i7 3770K
The difference in price is about $350

What are you using the system for mainly if for gaming then a z77 system will be fine if you do a lot of graphics rendering and the like then go with a 2011.

welcome to the OC3D forum,

Z77 + i5-3570K for gaming and light graphics work 4-8GB memory
Z77 + i7-3770K for heavy gameplay and vid rendering and large graphic file
manipulations 8-16GB memory
X79 + i7-3930K for 3D render, video rendering/after effects, gaming
8-32GB memory

only issue i have with sabertooth is memory allocation of 1866 is max for both
and with ivey bridge that is a potatoe in the tail-pipe stiffling. any other
ASUS or MSI board will allow up to 2400/3000 in memory usage.

a little more info on system usage can help..

Z77 + i7-3770K will suit me.
What other $300 boards do you recommend?
I really like the looks of the Sabertooth with the thermal armour :)

I think the Sabertooth is already very cheap, it is only $250.
I just want the most reliable/durable motherboard.
I'm not sure whether the "military components" thing is true or just a gimmick but they provide 5 years warranty which is good.

everyone wants the reliability, but thats all a crap-shoot with electronics. MSI
has gone one better to hand verify all MSI Z77 MPower boards to give the
end-user a better chance of non-fail systemboard related issues.. but with
any mass-produced product, there will still be a chance of reliability.
MSI MPower is $200....

Doesn't the 5 year warranty mean better reliability because ASUS don't want to be replacing boards for 5 years?

no.. it does not, nor does the price reflect. they have confidence that the item
"should not need service for Xyears" but again, its electronics. check
some etailer reviews and look for RMA issues... they all have 'em..
right now, im helping a Z77 sabertooth TUF fan condition. so yes they
can have faults..
