Advice on what to upgrade

Evening all, been thinking about upgrading my computer in the new year but not sure what to upgrade. I mostly use my PC for gaming and watching stuff. I only game at 1080p @ 120HZ if that helps too.

My current spec list is -

Intel i5-3570k @ 4.2GHz
16GB Corsair Vengeance
Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
Nvidia GTX 780
Corsair RM750W
Samsung 128GB mSATA
Samsung EVO 250GB
3x 2TB Seagate Barracuda
Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit
NZXT H440
XSPC CPU Watercooling

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Dario.

For 1080p all you really would need to upgrade is the GPU for a higher consistent framerate. The CPU is more than enough and 16GB of memory is more than good.

As for which GPU don't really know. Volta may come out in Q1 next year. May not but I suspect the Titan model will at least. AMD on the other hand I don't know. I don't think anything but a new Vega chip to replace Polaris in the mid range will come out till end of Q2 at the earliest

Thanks NeverBackDown. I was looking at 1070 but then I seen the 1070ti is out ? Is it worth getting the 1070ti or getting a 1070 and buying a waterblock for it ?

Dario.

I've seen some brand new 1080s that are cheaper than the 1070Tis here in Canada (go figure). I wouldn't hesitate to go used if you get a good price and trust the seller. Put a water block on that baby and OC the snot out of it! :)

My personal opinion but I'd get the 1080 over the 70ti. It's basically the same price so why not?
And if it is more expensive it's hardly any more

Why bother upgrading, your specs seem fine for 1080p gaming to be honest, a GPU upgrade won't really make a huge difference and considering the cost of it, is it really worth it?

Spend your money on better things and upgrade your whole PC in the future, as you really need to start looking into a new mobo, new cpu and ddr4 to get benefits of newer hardware.

I totally disagree. AAA titles on ultra will really tank the GPU. For child games the 780 is fine :-D = Minecraft, LOL, CS and so on :-)

780 is fine for AAA games like GTA V, R6S, Latest COD, Battlefield, etc. You can play all of those games on high settings with minimum 100 fps. What more do you need? Even integrated graphics can run Minecraft, you aren't seriously suggesting a high performance GTX 780 graphics card should be used for playing games that can be run on integrated graphics?

If he wants to play every game on max settings (i.e. difference between high to ultra - which personally to me is not normally that noticeable) or upgrade to a higher res monitor then perhaps he should upgrade.

But to me the upgrade just doesn't justify the difference in performance he will get, if I was in his shoes, I would wait until I can upgrade the rest of the components in a whole new build as well (to reduce any bottlenecks from the outdated hardware). A 1080 will perform better in a newer mobo with a newer CPU compared to his one.

I just upgraded my GTX 780 to a Vega 56 and so far at least in synthetic benches, it's very close to double the performance. The only game that I had that really pushed the 780 very hard was deus ex MD but even that was playable on medium settings. Nothing has been unplayable. A 1070Ti or 1080 should be pretty much on par with this vega 56 performance wise.
