Advice on new PSU

Hey,

I'm looking for a power supply of around 600W - 700W, modular would be nice although not a massive issue. It will be powering:

BD or intel i5 2500k

nvidia 560 or similar (possible sli in future if they price drop)

WD caviar blue

3-4 case fans and aftermarket CPU cooler

CD rw drive

card reader

e.t.c

My budget is up to around £75 inc. delivery, i'm currently stuck between the Cooler master GX 650 W (non modular) or the Coolermaster Silent Pro Modular. Not sure whether the extra cash is needed tbh. Other suggestions are welcome as i'm not that familiar with power supplys.

Thanks

Yeh i've been looking at the scan pages for ages, it's a toss up between buying the corsair tx650 which is more expensive and non modular, or that mushkin on aria which looks good, what are mushkins like for reliability/build quality??

So yeh it's looking like corsair, mushkin or the antec true power 650 which is highly recommended online.

Never used Mushkin PSU only their memory. You can't go wrong with Corsair, and their customer service is meant to be brilliant.

What case are you using? Is there room enough for you to hide stuff if you go non-modular? How obsessive are you about cable management?

Yeh corsair or antec now, is it worth paying extra for modular or not?

Having a modular PSU is definitely well worth it when it comes to cable management, but even without a modular PSU you can still do really decent cable tidying. Really depends on the case and how much time you're willing to spend planning out the cable routing. But it's all good.

I have a Mushkin PSU, the 700W Joule. It only powers a non OC-ed gaming system and it's not too bad. I honestly think it's alright. I'd definitely suggest a Corsair unit though.

I've got the cm storm enforcer, so yeh I'd like it to look nice although I should be able to stash some cables behind the mobo tray and then a few inbetween the psu and the HD caddy. Then again modular would be a lot easier

Which case have you got? I mean chances are I won't SLI but i'd like to overclock the CPU, especially with sandybridges reputation, what're the cables like?

Oh the CM Storm Enforcer. That's a pretty decent case. You should be able to get all the cables tidied in that case with the Mushkin unit. The cables are a bit stiff, but I managed to make them a bit more flexible by bending them a few times just to get the tensions out. It was installed in a Fractal Design Core 3000 case. The system was just intended to be a decent gaming PC without overclocking or having multiple video cards.

I think the Enforcer will be easier to work with compared to the Core 3000. I managed to slip the 8pin power cable through the CPU cutout to reach the connector on the motherboard. Most of the cables are out of sight behind the motherboard tray area.

Good stuff I haven't been able to find many mushkin reviews so thanks, now it's either the mushkin or a corsair tx650 v2, i'll have to sleep on it haha.

Just to be on the safe side, for better reliability without questions asked, I'd suggest the Corsair TX650.

I slept on it and woke up to a deal on the antec true power new 650w modular so I couldn't say no haha, corsair ran it a close second but I heard the v2 have gone down in quality and they aren't modular so yeh thanks for the advice
