Adaptive V-Sync - Forceware 310.10

So after running a some benchies in Arkham Asylum I am seeing a much higher lower frame rate when running with Adaptive V-Sync on than with just normal V-Sync..

Averedge framerate is the roughly the same and of course max frames is capped at my monitor refresh rate..

Noobish question, but I'm guessing this won't make any difference to games that always top out with the VSync on, but tear like crazy when you turn it off?

Yes, I'm talking Portal 2. Even on a 560Ti it tears like crazy. I just feel like I'm losing out by turning the VSync on, even though I'm probably not.
 
Adaptive V-Sync looks awesome. An improvement on the min FPS of 17 frames while still having no frame tear is great. Nice one Nvidia boys and girls! And nice review too FTLN, +1

I can understand if you are benchmarking with v-sync on then your most surely loosing out, but v-sync is a must for me when gaming as all I care about is image quality and fluidity.....
 
Hey, I'm a little confused about the whole Adaptive V-Sync feature. The complaint for me when using V-Sync is that it feels sluggish when I play on all games (What I mean is, games I can run at 300fps like CS:Source). It's as if I turned my mouse sensitivity down by accident. Yet if I use an FPS limiter to limit to say, 61FPS, it feels smooth as butter again (albeit with screen tearing).

Because I read a description of this feature and it seems to solve a problem with "stuttering" which is a problem I simply don't have with V-Sync on the games I would use it for.
 
If your card/game stays above 60fps at all times you don't need v-sync off ever, and Adaptive V-sync would never turn it off on a 60Hz monitor. Turning it off causes tearing as different parts of different frames hit the monitor together.

Below 60fps you want v-sync off...if you don't have it off your frames are forced to fractions of 60Hz... 1/2=30fps...1/4=15fps..which causes shuttering. In a demanding games that struggle to get 45fps Adaptive V-sync would never turn V-sync on.

In reality a 60Hz monitor never displays more than 60 fps(unless you count torn frames as 2fps)Go above 60 you get tearing, below you get shuttering. Adaptive V-sync kills 2 birds with one stone. I think it's a set it and forget it win/win feature and I'm glad Nvidia released it for the 500 series.
 
Indeed, it's crazy of me since my monitor never displays more than 60fps, yet when V-Sync is turned on there is a noticeable sluggishness in mouse movement and aiming, even on a game that I can always run above 60FPS.
 
Do you find console versions of the same game, sluggish? I find PC games to be faster reacting, myself even when both are locked in at 60 fps.

Maybe you have above average vision/reaction, and precieve the screen rips as faster frame rates.

Also check and see if maybe you got a 75Hz monitor, because V-Sync ON at 60fps would drag you down to 37fps. My old proview monitor was a 75 Hz model, the desktop drove it at 60fps fine, but the graphics card saw that it could do 75Hz and since I can't drive that frame rate in any of my games it tanked when I turned on V-Sync.
 
I haven't played a console game in a long time, but from what I can remember it's always felt more sluggish to me. Not forgetting that most of that is probably due to my poor control of analogue sticks *sigh*.

I'm fairly sure I have a 60Hz monitor, I bought a super cheap 24" Iiyama LED one, in fact it's this ProLite E2472HD it doesn't give me a clear indication as to what the refresh rate is, it has a varying number?

go to "control panel", "Adjust screen resolution", under display it should say 1920 x 1080(60Hz) or something like that.
 
Vertical sync 56 - 75 Hz

It could be 75Hz but more than likely a 60Hz.

did you install the drives for it, most people don't it's just a screen right??

After installing the drivers, my proview showed up as a 75Hz monitor.

In device manager you should see your monitors make and model number under the monitors tab, if not your using windows generic drivers. Maybe thats fouling something in Direct X.

Nvidia's control panel should pick it up too, not sure if it gets the info from the driver, or discovers it on it's own.

I know in windows XP I was always having to remember to force it to use the monitors driver instead of windows generic one.
 
AH yes Windows has it as a Generic PnP monitor at 60Hz (with a drop down for 59Hz but nothing else). I'll go and install the drivers now.

I installed them (it was more a configuration file) and no change to the above besides now displaying the correct name.
 
Just added some crysis 2 results to the first post too, much better performance with adaptive v-sync also...
