Multi GPU - does it work? thread

To find a game in the list press CTRL F. Then type in the name of the game you are looking for, as these are not added in alphabetical order.

I was thinking about doing this the other day, but was thinking on how I should format it.. Now I've had an idea that should work, keeping it nice and simple..

The object is to get a detailed and precise list of games and how they work in SLI/Crossfire. Obviously I will need help from you Nvidia guys but I will do what I can for AMD !

So the formatting is as follows -

Multi GPU type - CFX or SLI here.
Game - Game name here.
Does it work - answer here and brief explanation if you have any information.

Now I know AMD users can basically look through a list of profiles to see if Crossfire is listed which is nice, but this does not give you exact info on how well it works etc.

Any way, let's get the ball rolling.

Multi GPU type - Crossfire +SLI

Game - Crysis 3

Does it work - Perfectly on both

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Far Cry 4

Does it work - Yes it actually seems to work OK. However, Duna engine supposedly does not support Crossfire at all but I have found no information regarding when Crossfire was implemented. It seems to work fine, though.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Fallout 4

Does it work - Yes. You need to be running Crimson 16.1.1 and version 1.2.37 of the game. Please read thread for instructions on how to do that.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Just Cause 3

Does it work - No. According to the creators JC3 does not support multi GPUs of any type or sort. There is news that this game is going to be re-released in DX12 so we can only hope that SLI/CFX works by default using DX12's multi adapter.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Mad Max

Does it work - Perfectly

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire + SLI

Game - Call of Duty : Black Ops III

Does it work - Yes but it's not perfect. Flickering textures are relatively common and I have had the game crawl into the single FPS a couple of times quite far into the game. You also can not use MSI Afterburner screen overlays as this will result in missing textures. SLI issues are -Almost Perfect, does suffer from some microstutter and the occasional frame drops mainly when recording at 4K with Shadowplay

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Middle Earth : Shadow of Mordor

Does it work - Perfectly

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire +SLI

Game - Tomb Raider

Does it work - Perfectly on both

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Dying Light

Does it work - Yes. However, like BLOPS III there are issues with flickering.Performance is good, though.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Trine 2

Does it work - Perfectly.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - The Witcher III

Does it work - Almost perfectly. Hairworks will sometimes misbehave.

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Wolfenstein : The New Order & Wolfenstein : The Old Blood

Does it work - No, does not work at all in either Crossfire or SLI and never will according to the developer.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire +SLI

Game - Call of Duty : Ghosts

Does it work - Crossfire - Works very well, though some micro stutter was evident. SLI - Yes but suffers from extreme microstutter, frame drops and optimisation issues.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Project : Cars

Does it work - Perfectly, though it has been reported that smoke and particle effects may cause slowdown.I did not notice anything of the sort.

--

Multi GPU type - SLI

Game - Elite Dangerous

Does it work - Perfectly, does suffer from occasional frame drop but that is believed to be a game issue. In terms of Crossfire X according to posts on the Frontier Forums there is no Crossfire profile for it so Crossfire will not enable, however I cannot test or confirm this issue.

--

Multi GPU type - SLI

Game - Titanfall

Does it work - SLI - Yes but suffers from weird lights popping up in the maps through walls and the occasional texture issue, game is also has a frame rate cap locked to the monitors refresh rate.

Game - Call of Duty : Black Ops

Does it work - Perfectly

Multi GPU type - SLI

Game - Call Of Duty : Advanced Warfare

Does it work - SLI - Yes but suffers from extreme microstutter, frame drops and optimisation issues and also some mouse input lag when SLI is enabled.

Game - Batman : Arkham Knight

Does it work - No. Does not work at all.

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Split/Second AKA Split/Second Velocity

Game - Star Wars : Battlefront

Does it work - Does not yet work at all. I have spoken to AMDMatt and he said that DICE were working on an update.

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Rise of the Tomb Raider

Does it work - It works and scales well but is rather buggy.

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Far Cry 3

Does it work - It works OK, though some stuttering was evident. Note, you need to change Vsync to 1 frame and disable the frame buffer to prevent further stuttering.

Does it work - Seems to work perfectly.

--

Multi GPU type - Crossfire

Game - Far Cry 3 : Blood Dragon

Does it work - No. Does not work at all.

Works perfectly fine

Multi GPU Type Crossfire and SLI
Crossfire not supported, SLI now works fine

This thread could be very useful, are you going to add posts to the OP?

Yes.

I've spent the past couple of weeks Googling for information and tbh dude I can't find frickin' anything.

It really is a nightmare trying to find out if games work and there is a crapload of conflicting information.

Far Cry 4 for example according to online info I found worked, then it didn't, then it did, then the engine doesn't support Crossfire at all... So I tried it on my pirate copy (because TBH I don't play it as I hate FC games) and it stuttered like a pig. Then I read that it worked, so I stumped up and paid for the game. Tried it out myself, works quite well. Definitely improved FPS with no stuttering or flickering.

So yeah, basically I am testing games as we speak (well, I'm watching Spurs atm lol but will get back to it later) and I will add what I have tested and my findings.

I will also add SLI as a +SLI for example if any one has any info on SLI.

One thing I have sort of learned though is that if a game is not AFR friendly then it's highly likely that it won't work in SLI either.

But yeah, this sort of thread does not exist on the internet. Every thread I have found asking for lists usually results in people saying "I can't be bothered".

Nvidia
GTA V - perfectly,
Thief - Perfectly,
Rocket league - perfectly.

I'll do some more later.

I've not tested GTAV yet (I didn't realise I had it installed) but will later. Apparently Crossfire has been a bit up and down on it but I will know more later :)

Ed. I have Thief installed too I think..

Ed2. Realised that the Thief I have is not legit (I've never played it to be fair) so I just bought it for £4.42 and will install and test later with GTAV !

This is why adding google docs or something for the forum would be mega handy.

Sniper Elite 3 - best CF and SLI game I have ever tried. Perfect

Thief has an epic benchmark built in. ;)

GTA V should be fine in crossfire, MrKambo used to use the 295x2 when we game, with great results.

Both added guys cheers !

Yeah but lately I have been hearing that game udpates have fudged it completely. As I say, much conflicting info on the net = head hurts...

Edit. Just attempted to launch GTAV and it wants to install a, wait for it, 2.5gb update. Yikes ! that's a fat old lump of data. As soon as it's finished I will give it a good testing. I clearly remember before my FPS were max 53 with averages around 38-40. If I start hitting the 60 FPS mark I will know it's working properly :)

Edit yet again. OK so fair play, Crossfire X is absolutely awesome in GTAV. Now absolutely jammed at 60 FPS.. Adding now :)

GTA V works well with Tri-SLI (780) but not so much with Quad-SLI (Titan X). I'm intrigued to try it with Quad-SLI 780Ti's when I get Lightning set up right to see if it was the game or just the board/memory causing issues for the Titan X's.

It scales phenomenally well between single, dual and triple SLI though.

Aye I have solid 60fps at 60Hz in GTA its glorious and with all that ultra grass.

Yup, hella sweet tbh.

From what I remember reading for each technology you need to fully support it. So SLI = its own support. Tri SLI = its own support and Quad SLI = its own support.

It came from an interview I read with the devs of Bioshock (so years ago). I'm not sure if anything has changed since tbh.

Many years ago (on these very forums) I bought a pair of 3870x2 for £40 each and for ***** and giggles I benched them with all of the (at the time) modern games. IIRC the only game that worked properly with Quadfire was BF:BC2 and hilariously the two old hoovers actually put my 5770 Crossfire to shame.

Sadly the same couldn't be said for pretty much all of the other games I tested. Batman (the first one) showed absolutely enormous gains but sadly the min FPS was dire and the micro stutter was just tragic. Obviously I know why that was happening now but at the time it was quite frustrating.

I've been busy at work today and have added quite a few extra games. All of the Borderlands and Thief etc. I'm starting to run out of space to download the games now so will have a clearout later and then install some more from my Steam list tomorrow and give them a try.

From what I have heard Star Wars (that new one) does not work with Crossfire or SLI yet and apparently (according to AMDMatt) is awaiting a code update to address this.

I've had very consistent performance with Crossfire in GTA V, there was only one driver revision that broke it but that was 4/5 revs ago, but recently it has been scaling so well i was literally shocked

These are what I have noticed with games that I have played or at least benchmarked after graphics cards upgrade.

Wicked I will add those later (when I'm totally awake). I fear if I tried now I would just mess it right up :D
