Hi i was swapping thermal paste of my cpu on cleaning he heatsink and i accidentally got very small amount of arctic silver 5 on the bottom of the cpu. I think the thermal compound is conducive so can i cause damage to the cpu or the mobo if i try to boot?

all i can get is stuff from a gas station store nearby (i dont have better word in english) if i need to buy something to clean it up as dry paper didn't do the trick

just use some rubbing alcohol and allow it to dry before putting it in. Alcohol by nature dries very quickly. just make sure ya get it all off (the AS5 that is)

I would say 70 or 80% pure alcohol, dip a swab or kitchen paper in and clean the contacts, dont let the alcohol drip out of the swab or paper.

when I get messy like that (older pinned cpus) I just dipped an old toothbrush in the alcohol and brushed it away then rinsed it well with alcohol and blew it fry with compressed air. No reason it wont work with the contact type cpu's

I gave vodka another shot (also took a shot myself:rolleyes:) and it seemed to work pretty good, i cant see any trace of the AS5 in there :)

It should be all clean... But ill let it dry for an hour or so now

E: allright, it works perfectly fine, and my temps got down quite a bit :)

It's situations like this why I always have a bottle of Finlandia around. From what I remember, it has never let me down.
