Hi all,

im looking for some help and advice;)

I have just got my new PC up and running with the help of GoLLuM (thx)

so all I need to know now, is if anyone out there has the same mobo as me and hopefully the same cpu & gpu's

and if so, can you please give me some help with the bios setup?

my specs are -

http://www.extremeprometeia.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=96&stc=1

Asus A8N-SLI Premium

FX57

2GB OCZ VX3200 (4sticks)

OCZ PowerStream 600w

xfx 7800GTX X2sli

4 hard disks (two Raptors, two Seagate Barracudas)

Plextor DVDR

9X 120fans

Fan O Matic Pro

2x water res,pumps

2x DD waterblocks (GUP)

Storm G5 (CPU)

my overclocking test -

mem/

2gig/

400mhz/

2.5/8/3/3/18/20/4/3/2/

x1 Hyper Transport Frequency

CPU/

CPU 210

PCI E Clock 100MHz

DDR 3.0v (max)

Chipset 1.6v (max)

HT 1.25v (max)

CPU Multy X14.5

Cpu 1.500v

PCI Clock Sync 33.33

GPU/ x2sli

490/1300 (not overclocked by me yet)

this is the best I could get my settings, and be able to run aquamark and 3dmark without crashing the pc :( (could get better timings with just 1 gig of DDR instead of 2gig)

My temps are -

no overclocking!

CPU - 34c

GPU1 - 35c

GPU2 - 40c

after 1hr

Basically his problem is that he can't get high memory speeds 1:1 - (for those of you unfamiliar with the a8n bios:) the 400mhz in memory settings is the reference frequency (400mhz = 1:1).

Yet phil managed to get 240 2-2-2-6 (the a8n only gives 3v vdimm).

So hopefully there is something I don't know about in the a8n bios which will allow him to get these speeds too.

Also ideally you shouldn't use half multis.

Good luck getting help.

that was a fast reply!

thanks again for all your help GoLLuM, the pc was faster and got better scores on 3dmark and aqua with just 1gig of DDR,

but as for games like BF2, ran better with 2gig.

I would like to get a good score to help EPUK stay at the top :) , so I will use just 1gig of ram if that helps?

also my NB has the new heatpipe thing (no fan) the fan from the cpu was cooling it i think, but as i use a waterblock there is now no fan

should i put a fan on the NB? and if so blowing or sucking?

2gb of ram you will default at 2t you need 2 x 512 for 1t but speak to mcmad he got his fx57 to 3.7 jig :)

That's not all that impressive as a cpuz verified freq but its very good as bench stable. Which is it?

If you have an exhuast fan by the cpu slot then definitely put in a fan - but from the looks of it you have plenty of air in there :)

Anyway, hot air comes from air coolers.

As for the clocking problem - have you tried leaving the bios on auto to see what it does?

You could also do DDR466 or DDR500 and see which works :)

I don't know if you are still looking for a solution to this. If you have found a working solution let me know becuase I'm quite interested in this premium one.

Hi m8, thanks for the info

I have put a fan on my heatpipe to stop the overheating problem

and after lots of tests and tweaks I have decided to stick with my 2GIG of mem, as all the games run better

I could get good scores with only 1GIG,

but I spend most of my pc time playing games :)

I will be getting a new mobo soon,(any recommendations) as I don't like the heat pipe, its cool if you are on air, but just in the way when using water-cooling.:(

DFI nf4 sli-dr its the best mobo at present might have 1 for sale brand new if interested?

I dunno - I'd say the RDX200 CF-DR gives it a run for it's money and is about the same cost new. Some reviewers say it's the best overclocking chipset ever and all the other features are the same as the nf4 version. USB performance is a little poor though.

It's true the RDX has gotta be a good choice.

But if you already have geforce cards and perhaps want/need SLI (avoiding the expense of buying both MOBO and cards) then the NF4-SLI-DR is the best choice.

With respect - I think for this thread I need to refer you back to the original spec - the part where is says he already has 7800GTX x2 is interesting, especially when the guy is asking about what mobo to to change to?

The only choice is the DFI SLI-DR for the enthusiast.

Unless of course Blow considers whipping the cards out too and starting again with crossfire?

How noisy is the chipset fan on the DFI SLI boards? Could a passive heatsink do the job?

I really like the passive cooling on the asus - or is that why its not such a great overclocker (along with 3V only for memory and restrictive settings).

Yes sorry I didn't make it clear that the SLi-DR is the only choice but I was saying that for someone else who might have a single x700/800/850 it's not the top of the range any more.

Yeah the SLI-DR is the way to go. If you can hang around until late November / early December I'll be selling mine.

Scorchio has got one now mate - PM him for details AFAIK it's brand new never been used - we were looking to do a joint project as an overclocking team but xmas is looming and the missus's aint cheap!!

Of course after christmas we will have a better idea of what nvida has to offer too so if you change your board now you might not need to in the new year?

And you can maximise your potential with what you have right now.

TEAM EPUK NEEDS YOU!!!
