This will be a to the point review, each heatsink will be evaluated on easiness of use and installation, compatibility and of course its performance will be thoroughly tested.

This review is split into 2 parts; the first part describes each heatsink in detail with pictures, good/bad points and performance with different fans and settings. In the second part we’ve combined all results in 2 graphs sorted by cooling performance and noise/performance ratio.

Previously tested but included for reference (links lead to detailed overview of these heatsinks done in previous reviews):

# Coolermaster Hyper6

# Coolermaster Hyper48

# Thermalright XP-120

# Thermalright XP-90

# Zalman CNPS7000CU

# Zalman CNPS7700CU

# Stock A64 Cooler

New contenders:

# Scythe SCNJ-1000 Ninja

# Scythe SHOGUN Heatlane

# Titan Vanessa-L

# Titan Vanessa-S

# ThermalTake Sonic Tower

# TTIC NPH K8-1

# Arctic Cooling Freezer64

# Scythe Kamaboko

Article...made really good reading: Madshrimps

Results:
The difference between the top 5 heatsinks is less then 5°C, which will make it hard to decide a true “winner” as availability and price will play a very large part. Last year’s low noise champion, the Thermalright XP-120, has quite a lot of competition this year, of which many surpass the XP-120 in both performance and generated noise.

The table below lists the price and best performance/noise ratio per heatsink (lower value = better), prices may differ (by a lot) depending on where you live.

We hope this roundup was useful; we would like to thank all the companies which send in samples for inclusion in the roundup.

We are working on a follow up article which will focus attention on passive cooling, until the next round!
Its a very interesting read and you should read it all to get the picture!

So it looks like the hyper6 with a powerful 80mm on it outperforms most of them.

Is that what you guys think...if so i might pop down pc world now and get the 2nd hand one they have..

What a bunch of knobs....I linked to their page clearly and they've taken that picture down

They probably have an anti-bandwith stealing script in place.

Download the image and stick it on imageshack is prolly the best way.

OK, i've just bought the hyper6 based on that review. It looks like its only about 1oc higher than an xp-90c and it has the advantage of being able to have 2 fans strapped to it :D

Didnt get a bad price on it either considering the guy at the till fucked up...it was supposed to have £13 off for business customers - but he actually charged me £13 for it...rofl

Yup....i'll give you my current 1:1 OC results after installing this tonight....

However, i wanna reserve the 3ghz results until i've got new ram that runs @ DDR600 as running on a divider makes the results look less impressive

Well makes a change Dave!

My PC world is about the same...maybe a couple of half decent cases and two quiet fans thrown in! :(

The one here is quite a bit better...DFI and Abit mobo's, mostly generic ram, some good cases and PSU's, processors, UV lighting and fans...

we have "the computer shop" in town, (formally known as time computers i think). they have some pretty cool accessories such as cathodes and round IDE's but very expensive and low quality (like ebueyr lol)

Yeah our "Tiny" shop got replaced by a really cool looking shop but alas.....very VERY expensive!! :(

I've got my Hyper6 installed....26oc Idle

Just to let everybody know...

There is a compatability issue between the Hyper6 and the DFI Lanparty UT NF4 board: DO NOT USE THE COOLERMASTER SUPPLIED BACK PLATE!!!!

The place sits over several small chips on the back of the board, and by installing and tightening the coolermaster backplate, you will crush these chips, probably screwing up your motherboard!!!

Instead screw the Coolermaster retention module into the DFI back plate.
