A weird one...

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows of a type of acrylic or something that goes from transparent to opaque using electricity? A bit like that privacy glass.

Got an interesting idea for my case mod if i can find something.

Cheers,
Chris.

Not sure tbh, but you can get a similar result for cheap using smoked plexy and when inside is brightly lit it shows through fairly well, wont be perfect but it can look pretty nice in some cases.

EDIT: or it might just be mirrored? been a while since ive messed about with the stuff.

Thanks for the reply mate.

"Smoked" is my second choice if i can't get what I'm after.

I've seen the prodigy with the mirrored panel and it's really nice! However i would like my panel to appear solid white until i turn on the juice or back light it.

wont be perfect but it can look pretty nice in some cases.

Was that a pun? :P

Haha I'll let you have it ;)

Anyone clued up on this stuff? There must be a company that manufactures a plastic of some description that changes opacity on request somehow?

There you go although i dont think its feasible to get it into a case...

Also i remember when i was looking into my house refubishement it was shit load expensive like 20x the price of normal windows so even it was able you would have to pay a lot

my understanding is when a current is applied the molecules either align or unalign i forget which...

Yep thats the technology i'm talking about. However i'm after something i can cut and shape, because of what i want to do with it. It's a long shot but i thought i'd ask.
