A, or unknown B?

ok. ofc they update the files for it i hope. I think many game devs have maxed-out rigs, it's a must. I heard Crysis was designed/presented on a 15" monitor

i (personally) havent came across a game to date that does well with trisli/xfire and up to quad, and the reason they done code for it its cause the market is very very small its like with amd not selling a huge amount of 5970's compared to there lower end cards, if you dig deep enuff on here you will find a review done by AlienALX where he looks over quadfire and tests it and shows how crap anything more than 2 cards are

crysis was continually developed for years and years and u can see that by there enthusiast detail level that got introduced when gpu's started to walk through it

If you were willing to spend £510 on two 480's but didn't want the heat or powerdraw but wanted much more graphics power than a 580, you could buy two 570's for £265 each.

Absolutly. NVIDIA scraped the bottom of the barrel for these cards

TinyTom's youtube review of the 560Ti is pukka, all the 500's

and me 2, I haven't seen a benchmark result that makes having 3 cards look worthy

I prefer 2 x GTX570 SLI to the 2 x GTX480 SLI. Even if performance is about the same, my concerns are noise and temperature, well mostly noise... The GTX570 is really quiet, while the GTX480 can be a screaming monster. Especially if you pack them close together.

3X SLI is usually a bad idea, there are a handful of games where you see a nice boost over 2X SLI, but there are many games where you have worse performance. So only if you play those games where triple SLI works well you could consider it. But as a general idea, just get the best two cards you can afford for the simple dual SLI config and you'll be golden.

4X SLI is just stupid.

At what price point would people be willing to accept the 480 purchase? For me it would have to be well under $300. Maybe like $250. I doubt they will get that low as they aren't producing them anymore. The same sort of question is in my head about the 5870...how much of a price drop do we need to consider these older beasts?

well here as bungral said the 570 is £265 and the 480 is £254

so going on that id say £175 at most second hand and that would be a lightly used one with plenty of transferable warranty, and an aftermarket cooler on it

so sayin a 30% drop second hand at least i think is reasonable

Well here in the states the 5870 is a little more than a 460 if you look for a deal.

Just an effort to clear the old shelves to make room for new stuff I guess. But something to consider, to not forgot the last gen stuff lol...if heat/noise/and power consumption isn't a worry that is.

a good majority of ppl on here favour nvidia mainly if there a part of the folding team and amd fold like poo and always have and by the rate things move with there clients isnt lookin likely they ever will a 5870 will get trounced from an 8800gt in regards to that, then add on top the amd cards have nothing to offer compared to the 5 series nvidia cards

Exactly, but if ya find a killer deal, it would be a shame not to consider it for a second and then move on

I'm sort of a last gen kinda guy. I get excited when the new stuff comes out, because that means I can finally afford last gen stuff lol. Sorry for hijacking the thread. My vote is for 580

yeah mate i would definitely consider a 5870 if the price was right second hand to go in the mothers rig so i can pinch one of my 460's back ha ha!

GTX 580 all the way. I waited 1 year to upgrade to DX11 goodness because I cannot buy AMD (because of the work I do) and the GTX 480 was a nuclear reactor close to meltdown. The HAF X can handle the GTX 480 no problem but they still run hotter and louder than a 580. That makes the 580 worth the extra $50 USD imo.

For hardware changes to your list I would change that tri-channel mem kit to a dual channel kit. I also personally prefer the Corsair AX1200 but the CM PSU is fine.
