A new way of Air Cooling

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet - Labs in the US have come up with a new way of air cooling CPU's.

Doesn't make much sense to me, but I am no scientist. Air is the worst conductor of heat but this is exactly what is between the chip and the cooler...

Actually this makes a lot of sense, it's getting a lot of air onto the contact patch. Just because it isn't touching doesn't mean it can't cool efficiently.

Interesting... Maybe we'll finally get a noctua killer. Althought he says it spins at a "several thousand rpm" , which means it aint gonna be quiet.

doubt it will kill the noctua lol. It had better be balanced perfectly too otherwise it will rip itself apart lol.

This still doesn't make sense though....

Just how is the heat transfering through the "Air Gap" ??? I was under the impression that air is an insulator not a conductor...

Could make quite a mess in your rig if that flew off at 3000 rpm....
