98860 OC3D 24 Core Ultimate Folding Rig

I dont use opticals really. Ive got a spare small SSD I can use but again I am a total n000b when it comes to Linux

Usually LiveCDs are flashed to a USB drive these days and you then boot from
that , the name is primarily a holdover from the optical era. But of course,
a spare SSD should also work.

And agreed with the opinions above, those two AIOs look the business. :D

Good to finally see some scores. It really stomps all over my rig, but it also stomps on the new Mac pro which is a plus.

I'm a complete folding noob here guys: Would it not be better to get say a 3770k and use the extra £3k+ to buy a motherboard with 6+ PCIe slots and fill them up with another 4 780Ti's? *confused face*

If you wanted only a folding rig, yes (for now anyway). This rig is isn't primarily for folding.

Found this to be the best balance so far - leaving V7 to just use the 32 threads and then smashing in GPU's to use up some of the spare CPU cycles (only a few %)

Lookin' good. Shame you couldn't get any higher clocked memory working than the 1600. For SMP folding memory speed can actually make a significant difference in ppd for a 24/7 folding rig especially under Linux.

I actually think you need to be running 2 folding rigs. One with just the GPU's and an underclocked low power cpu, and the monster smp under Linux. That way you'd be generating more like 700k-800k ppd.

Yeah not to mention the other dual xeon board and 2x 8 core E5's Ive got....

one step at a time dude - electric needs putting in the loft first

Holy cow!! That's some PPD right there :) my teeny tiny system and laptop are just..... well tiny. New system me thinks.

You'd probably be better off with a couple K40's in SLI, but still...

You know EK makes a water block kit for that board, wink wink, nudge nudge.

Watched the video of that 24 core, 48 thread behemoth at the weekend. What a monster, I can't remember the scores of what your normal CPU's get in CineBench, but just watching the blocks fill up with images you know it's fast!

Rig is sadly off atm due to the decorating going on at TTL towers (dust is daft) but hoping to get the loft sorted soon and it will be finding a perm home up there
