If this is just an oc'd 512 gts then why are there all those extra capacitors etc?

Also, can't remember where but someone said the 9800gtx has a 512 bus. Please be true...

@Rast - the GTX does have 2 6PINS, this is the next gen GTX so it's what you'd expect

I think what I was pointing towards, and probably making a hash about it, is "~if~" the card alledgedly operates at the proficiency of an oc`d 8800GTS, where does the extra power go - or what`s it for ?

.. in theory, the old 8800GTX should be in the ball-park of this 9800GTX .. 14k marks with no clocking ? or does the old one hit 12k in the same circumstances ? I know that with the same cpu @ the same speeds (as the expreview screenshot), and a 8800 GT @ stock I get 13.8k.

Something`s not right imo.

Put simply, they regulate the power. Being as there`s so many power inputs to the card, I can see why the caps are there.

The GT is better in 3dm06 than the GTX, I got 16k with my GT... Look in the 3dm06 thread.

And yes, you are asking pretty much what I did (capacitors, extra power bits)... To which we have no answer

According to fudzilla the gtx is indeed a 768mb card, fingers crossed they're right and the card we've been seeing is indeed the gts. Although the pics earlier in the thread would support it being a 512mb card. I can't wait for it to come out and stop the speculation.

I can`t see that m8 tbh. I`d be thinking 512/1g.

Having said that, before the 8800gtx came out I would have said the same thing :p

No, they say the GX2 is 512bit although its 256bit x 2.

Its pretty safe to assume GTX is 256bit.

edit: ok I see where it says that. cant be right imo. It also woudln't make sense for them to put 384bit on GTX but only 256bit on the GX2.

At £220 for one card it makes teh GX2 pricing make a bit more sense. But still way overpriced.

Caps are just for things like tri-sli 2 power inputs etc. Card supposedly only just uses enough power to require 2 inputs. Should mean it OC's a bit better basically...

Even if it is a rehashed GTS 512 it will still perform better, have a better cooler, OC better, and have Tri-sLI support for only 50 bucks more. (Im sure the XFX one will be cheaper and OC alot better plus have a cooler looking cooler on it)

As for DX10.1........who cares?

ooh, is it like the 9600gt then, where although it appears not to have many stream processors its still very fast...

It certainly throws more variables into the mix.

The one thing that`s always outstanding for me, is thinking what the enthusiast already has in their system.

It would be interesting if they`d gone further back in the 8800a series, like the 8800Ultra, and run the tests.

I still maintain that if u already have the very old 8800Ultra, you need a good excuse, if u have the newer 8800 GT(s), you need a bit of an excuse. The excuse atm is u have money to spend for minimal fps.

If your on late 7 series, then for sure, go for it. I might also add that if your going from 20"/22" to 24"+, that might also be an excuse.

I think the gtx will be very good value, since it beats the gx2 on crysis upto 1920x1200, and since thats the only game that really requires these cards its looking good.. even so, its like £150 cheaper.. why would you get a gx2?

Well they are normally fairly reliable with those early reviews... Be nice to have someone just drop one on your doorstep though wouldn't it.

Anyway yeah I reckon I'll upgrade to one of these as I'll be looking at getting a bigger monitor and my GT might cry a little.

Looking like a decent card for the price.

Without FRAPS this review is worthless

What a weak review. Timedemos. Also, Crysis runs sweet on the X2 1920x1600 MEDIUM on Vista. Also, why only HL2 and WiC for High Quality AA/AF?

I'll wait for a decent review before making my mind up.

If you look at the top of each page, none of these were done with actual gameplay using FRAPS. They were timedemos. Explanation of what that entails here
