why isnt it next gen? what would you say is next gen?

Think we now have a situation where the `gen` means different things to different buyers.

The `not in the know` buyer will more likely look at the name 9xxxxGTXYZ - and consider it a `9 series` - and buy it on that basis.

The `in the know` buyer may be now looking more at the gpu rev and basing decisions on that. So u`d have a G9x card, next gen being one with a G10x.

Certainly a good job by the manufs to get that bit of extra cash out of the market.

But they are trying to complicate things further with rumors of the G10x chips being dropped straight into 8800GT pcbs. So it isn`t a `completely` new card, more of a dropped-in gpu.

Me too... Nothing but speculation/rumours atm. Be nice when these things drop so we can make some informed decisions about what we are going to buy.

Maybe it is 9series because it is DX10.1?? Or did anyone overlook that?

There may be more changes in this that aren't available to everyone atm, just give it some time.

I seriously don't believe that it will be just 15% better though. Maybe at 1280x1024 yeah... but not at higher res.

I think water was meant to be some kind of difference with it.

But its definatly hardware related. DX10.1 coming with SP1 for vista apparently.

Heard of DX9.0c? Changed a lot in DX9, added SM3 and a few excellent features like proper HDR

yup, but my 6600gt couldnt run HDR, i think it wasnt SM3.0 where as 6800gt was..
