9800GTX 55nm, 512mb bus - 8 series architecture!

NVIDIA seem to have become lazy (like my news articles of late :P)

These days, we have received information that the entire truth of the GeForce 9800 GTX chips from nVidia to lead day. Thus, the 1.8 billion transistors graphics card in the second half year presented, and the GeForce 9800 GX2, which is a double of two low clocked D8E is replacing.

The GeForce 9800 GTX is based on an improved GeForce-8 architecture, which among other things DirectX 10.1 functionality. It has 384 shader units, which compared with those of the GeForce-8 percent more powerful generation of 10-15 should be.

The texture units are from 64 to 96 only slightly, also ROPs from 24 to 32 The texture units are from 64 to 96 only slightly, so ROPs from 24 to 32 to the other facilities of the chip is a 512-bit wide memory interface, using the 1000 MHz taktendem, 1024 MiByte great GDDR3 memory-a memory bandwidth of a total of 128 GiB / s provides.

As of the GeForce-8 architecture, the chip internally with a different clock than the shader units to be addressed. While the chip with 650 MHz raised will be the shader units with astonishing 2000 MHz tacts.

Precise information on the power of the video card, we are not yet available, because they are in the 55nm process will be manufactured, it is not exorbitant electricity consumption higher than in the 8800 Ultra. Wie eingangs erwähnt, wird die Karte zu Beginn des dritten Quartals vorgestellt und sollte sich damit dem R700 gegenüberstellen müssen, welcher zur selben Zeit erwartet wird. As mentioned, the map at the beginning of the third quarter presented and should therefore face the R700, which at the same time is expected.

Finally, we want to point out that the information from a credible source from the industry, but it probably only the current development of the chip reflects. Until the launch can be, especially when the clock frequencies, yet differences, which we then if necessary by later news attention.

Meh, what I get from it is 6 to 9 months b4 u can get ur hands on one, and a possible 15+% increase in performance.

Another way to look at that - ur GTX may give u 100fps in something, now u`ll get 115.. for probably a large-ish outlay.

What price we guessing at ? old gtx/ultra price ?

Ha ha I was thinking it was Yoda-esq..

Hmmm thats not quite the increase I would have been hoping for. I mean what was the increase of the 8800GTX over the flagship 7 series card?

Well between my 7800GT and 8800GTS was about 75% extra 3dmarks.

Yes its nothing like the do-all-end-all of the GPU world but its a dam good indicator.

Erm how exactly is 3x the shader units going to give it just 15% increase in performance :s

If this is the 9800gTX set to be released in line with the 9800GX2, it was meant to be out february ish.

Maybe it means each shader is 1.5times more powerful or something.

edit: of coarse unless it is simply getting more threads.. I read about that somewhere..

Uh oh... :(

I was hoping for a good solid card.. not a repackaged 8 series. (Okay is is a little more but still)

-Sits and waits for the real real real next-gen-

What have Nvidia been doing all year? A renamed/packaged chipset and now a renamed/packaged GPU. Outrageous!

With a 7900 gto and the rest of the hardware the same I got 7500'ish.. Now I'm looking at 14k with an 8800GT :)

I'm not sure what to make of these new cards really. I mean, I want one but what's there to play in the next 6 months? Far Cry 2 and thats about it I think!

One hell of a point, this maybe why Nvidia have "sacked".

But with no new hard-to-run games coming anytime soon.. why do we need to upgrade? ;)

What are you guys so sad about? 7800-7900 Was just improved architecture. Thats what this is. Idk bout yall but my 7950GT pwns a 7800GTX in all instances. Id be willing to bet this will be the case too. (Minus that crap 9800GX2. Sorry, i dont like it)

The point is that for the 78xxx to 79xx they retained the 7 series code for it as that all it was, as you say, a revision. And thats what this is, which is why people are moaning. Its not a new family therefore why are they changing it.

They've stepped off theyre normal naming trends in order that people will think 'Ohh, new front number, time to upgrade!' imo.

Indeed..

Hmmm I dunno... If this 15% is to be believed then it possibly wont be worth the serious wonga its likely to cost but that being said how much stock can really be placed in an article theorising on the performance of a card thats quite a long way off?

I hope its wrong anyway.

couldn't agree more.

Who said it was going to be 15% faster?!

Looking at the improvements of the GT over the older architecture I think this will be pretty decent...

Tripple the shaders! More ROPS/TMU's, much wider memory bus for high res, over double the transistors... I think it will be a worthy upgrade, I guess only time will tell.

Not so sure if I should get the GX2 to tide me over now :/

Doh.

If the source is correct there is no real point waiting for this card. It isn't due until mid-08 and waiting 6 months for 10-15%, forget that.

The GX2 is supposed to be 30-50% faster and will be here in a few weeks (my birthday actually ;)).

I guess it is a case of waiting for what AMD deliver end of Jan and how the gx2 shapes up.

Any reviews secured for these launch days?
