8800GT/Vista/Crysis Problems

Heh I never called him a noob man I'm not that stupid, the guy knows his stuff :p

The rig happens to belong to my housemate and yes it was on full, he showed me the options panel. Initially I couldn't believe it either and thought exactly what you said. I'd heard people on the forums complaining how you couldn't play it then I saw this and just thought, no possible way.

Like I say man I'll see what I can do about it but no doubt surely if you started recording using any program that would also slow the system down?

I'd just like to add another possibility to this rather heated debate....

Take a game such as Counter-Strike:Source. I can set all of the options to maximum, but then go and adjust a whole multitude of other options via the config files that mean the game will be at best running with medium detail.

Also, I could tell the game to run with 8xAA, but in the nvidia control panel tell it to run hl2.exe with 0xAA, thus overriding the in-game options.

Personally I'm not bothered if someone says they can run Crysis on their calculator, so don't even think about trying to drag me into this. Just offering some alternative solutions ;)

C'mon guys, I think it's pretty obvious that Deshman believes what he is saying, despite knowing it should be impossible. So the likely conclusion is that Crysis is the one decieving us, or rather Deshman and his mate.

So, lets go about proving or disproving that shall we.

Where does crysis keep it's master setting file? Can Deshman post that here along with a video of the game running with those settings.

I think that would probably satisfy most people?

Edit: The other thought that just struck me is that the video drivers themselves can override game settings can't they? For example isn't there usually a slider you can move to 'performance' and doesn't it limit AA and other settings?

I can guarantee that the Nvidia driver settings are not tweaked, the only difference between now and the last time he ran Crysis is that he had to reinstall Vista. He has just told me that he ran the NTune 'tweaker' last time for 3 hours but I can't imagine that would make that much of a difference would it? Especially so if Kempez is telling me that an OC'd Quad doesn't perform as well.

Well I dunno, I'm not that bothered, just don't want people reading thopse posts and thinking there's something wrong with their rigs when they're seeing slideshows even at low res on very high settings

That was never my intention man, plus I'm sure most people are smart enough not to go and buy new rigs just because they read one thread on some forums :p

can i just say.. that on medium this game looks stunning, and with a few changes to some ini files you can have the game say 'very high' and the actual settings can be medium or even low...

the only way this can be proved is with A)screenshots B)realtime video and C) some kind of footage of the ini files(in their proper places), the in-game settings and then running the game all in one UNCUT video...

i'm inclined to side with kemp on this i've poured horus into tweaking crysis and even the latest beta's don't give that kind of performance this is sounding way off..

also of note since last beta drives whenever i look at water when i have r_waterreflection 1 i seem to have a SERIOUS fps drop :( hope this isn't driver related (even if it is i might re-install to remove the tweaks i made to the ini's)

and earlier i think smith said i was playing dx9 i didn't i played dx10 its 'playable' early on but the later levels is impossible.. which is why i'm now going through a large scale tweak of crysis settings to find out what takes the most fps off lol.. long.. long time consuming process :(

He started getting memory leaks just after the alien space ship bit but he did play inside the space ship on the settings I quoted. Saw that and it looked absolutely stunning :D

I gave Crysis another go now I've had a go at overclocking my CPU and with the settings at High in XP at 1680x1050 it runs better but still I wouldn't say over 10FPS which makes me think it's not something to do with the GPU (we both have the BFG 8800GTX OC).

Errr a little harsh... what Deshman has stated is what he thought was happening. Later proven that this is not possible he now simply wants to know what was actually happening.

Let's put this down to misinterpretation and stop swinging handbags.

Yes, quiet time for you young noob.

If you were intelligent enough to actually read the thread properly you'd see I've even said myself that I know this rig shouldn't be able to do it.

We're still waiting for this patch from crytek to hopefully help fix full quad support, if the GPU is doing physx and it can offload some to quad thats a bigish performance boost right there.

OKOK, that's enough

Joe should not have been so harsh but name calling is not the answer

Thread is closed

EDIT: The GPU is not doing Physics
