Hello Guys,
Got most of the bits for Coolsair that are in my sig now apart from the 2nd 7970.
yesterday when i got my 3570k i dropped it into the mobo along with the 7970 to get windows installed ready for the 2nd gpu and the watercooling parts.
everything was working dandy,
had a little problem with the usb ports on the keyboard so start playing around with that to get it working, catch the gpu and lift it slightly out of the pci lane, this was enough to cut the connection to the screen and ramp the fans to max. so quick shut the pc down, put it back in, try again.
now it doesnt matter which PCI lane the card is in it will not post giving an error code of B2. If i keep the card plugged into the first pci slot but put the hdmi running off the CPU it posts fine. try installing CCC but that doesnt even appear on the list of installed programs,
any ideas.

sounds like the card might of shorted its possible its dead but before jumping to that conclusion do you have another rig to test it on? as its also possible you might of just shorted the pci:e lane, but if that was the case the other lanes would still work :-/

ok post back the result i do have a feeling the card is gone but xfx have a good warrenty. if its under 28 days old you may be able to return it to the retailer for instant replacement aswell

so its defo not the board which is kinda good news the bad news is its the card i would contact the retailer and delclare it DOA they should replace it.

if not will have to go through rma with xfx last card i rma'd with them took 5 days. from rma start me sending my card to them and then them sending replacement but some can get the replacement card within 48 hours of sending the dud in :D

well this is weird,
after the 670 worked tried the 7970 again and BOOM post,
maybe the 670 gave the board a kick up the arse!

maybe or could of just been a short. well i wouldnt rule out a problem with the card just yet maybe do a few benchmarks on it 3dmark 11 or pc mark etc

hopefully all is golden :D

good luck

They do that sometimes, they need tickling! I had a bunch of problems like that the computer won't post and etc, just took it apart, put it back together and voila... I don't know if the card could short circuit in a PCI-E slot, that would mean bringing two phases together and any slot should be safe from that. I am glad your card is fine, although it's not safe to say it is alright, but if it posted the most chances are in your favor. Keep us posted with results and pics!!

well its my birthday today so taking it eays before i go to work, been working hard on coolsair and komodo the last few days, all the hardware is here for both builds and just need a few bits of watercooling gear for each, just not feeling dremeling the roof off the 650D for the new 360 grill in -8 temps

Have you updated the bios?

I havent personally done any flashes tom,
however, i dont know if you familier with the live update software msi bundle with the boards, but i did notice that downloading what appeared to be a bios update along with other things.

Oh, wow! Happy Birthday brother! You got quite a bit of work to two with both project. Can't wait to have a project for myself one day. I was thinking of one in a Micro ITX Silverstone case. Really love the built Linus did in one not long ago.
