7970 Ghz vs GTX 780

So i am currently upgrading me video card, i have an old 6950 and i think its about time I get something with a little more power.

Right now i am looking at the two following cards, and i believe for the price/power, i will be getting the most bang for the buck with the 7970. But i wanted to get any other opinions from you guys.

Also as far as my computer build goes, i have an Asus Sabertooth x58, with an i7-920, 12gb of RAM, Intel SSD. Would my current build bottleneck these video cards that are basically double the power of my old 6950?

Thanks,

I'd include the R9 280X in your comparision aswell, since it's essentially a 7970 GHz edition anyway. You might get a better deal with one of those if the AMD camp is what you end up going for.

Also, is there a budget restriction? If not, the 780 is the one to go for.

Try to use OC3D benchmarks... It has reviews you know.

Anyway a 280x is a 7970Ghz edition card but slightly faster with a higher boost clock. 780 will easily outperform it though. Actually not even a fair comparison to be honest. AMD 290 would be a better comparison but it is not out yet.

The super factory overclocked 280x can keep up with the 780 (stock) just about in some games, this card is the best one for that although to achieve proper 780 performance you still need to do a further overclock. Just go for a 780 if I was you as they're also easier to get hold of at the moment, the 'Toxic is out of stock everywhere.
