7970 - 780 - wait

I can get a Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP 3072MB for £233 delivered, the 780 is around £550.
Should i get either of these or wait for a new series?

I currently run a 1gb 6870 with i5 2500k @ 4.3ghz

I also want to run ARMA 3 very well and other games like Battlefield.

Thanks

Err that's quite a difference in price...

Personally i'd get the 780, i have 2 580's and they handle Arma 3 very nicely, they're about equivalent to a single 780

I'd wait as the new generation of AMD cards could be good. It might also mean that nvidia lower the price of the 7xx cards.

AMD will be announcing new cards on Sept. 25th. Mine as well wait to see how they turn out to be. Supposed to be on par with a titan at 780 prices.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. A 780 is on par with / better than a Titan at 780 prices.

But yeah, might as well wait if you're going to wait

I know I was just re-iterating :P

Well i already knew the information but maybe OP didn't. Might have been useful for him:p

Either way OP it's smart to wait. Next AMD cards should be out by BF4 release date with a bundle. Less than a month is not long on waiting and besides if anything current cards will go cheaper which means you could get 2 for 1.

A stock Titan will beat a stock GTX 780

An overclocked Titan will beat an overclocked GTX 780

An overvolted Titan will beat an overvolted GTX 780

Having said that a GTX 780 is much better value for money as the difference in performance between a Titan and a GTX 780 is only about 7%.

Sub went off the results Tom got. Not everyone else. Besides 7% in a game is usually 1-2 frames which will never be noticeable.

+1

Anyone looking for a card for gaming should always go for the GTX 780 over the Titan. When it comes to value for money there is no contest.

As mehere said, could literally crossfire 2 DCUII 7970's for the price of that 780 and have more left over for whatever you want to get. The 780 is obviously the more elegant solution, being one card and all, but 2 7970's and good ones to boot, ain't no slouch, especially for 80 quid less. Two 3 slot card is pretty thick though.

Personally I'd stick with the single card, but man, 2 7970's is seriously fast.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-273-AS pretty good price.
I always like to have one card to prevent issues like micro stutter etc. How are duel 7970s at the moment with the drivers?

I i assume two 7970s are going to be cheaper and more powerful than a single 8970 (or whatever the new ones called).

13.8/10 beta helps with frame pacing(that was the problem originally) so 7970 CF is not a bad idea.

Still best to wait until tomorrow(Sept.25th) to see what AMD announces about Hawaii GPUs.

Just thought I'd pop back in and ask: have you made a decision yet? Also, I'm curious as to whether I not the new Hawaii cards made a difference in your decision!

I'm in the same position as GrassyUK. I'll wait a little more the see how Hawaii fares on reviews and how it will affect prices on 7000 series and nvidia.

GTX 780 vs. wait

Hello everybody!
After reading numerous reviews and studying many benchmark results I decided to go for the GTX 780 which imo is the best choice at the moment.

BUT,

AMD announced the new graphic card series and I’m facing the same dilemma (get the GTX 780 or wait a while to see how 290X performs). I`m guessing there will be a while until other than stock models will be available.
