I run at that res and bought the 8800GTS 'XXX' 640 and all i can say is wow.. i can run every game i have on full.. much recomended.. Will help if you ever upgrade monitor.. But the 320 is exactly the same with less memory.. and its £60 cheaper lol.

cool, got a samsung syncmaster 940bw 19" widescreen, not sure wot it supports but i like this res anyway so dont really matter

The native resolution to a 19" widescreen is 1440x900 for all of them. I have a 19" wide as well and my 7950GT handles that res on all games maxed quite well actualy. Either one you should be fine. By higher resolutions we mean like 1680x1050 and above.

now that's true BUT this forum post is about the 8600GTS and how it compares to a dx9 card. It is the 8600 range of cards to which I compare my ati and 7950GT to. I don't remember mentioning anything about the 8800 and how it compares to the X1950XT. They are better, yes (some of them). Suddenly you have all made this post about the 8800GTS.

subject: "7950GT vs 8600GTS" and all I have done is to expand the 7950GT to a dx9 card, better one (in performance) and much more affordable in price.

If I typed 8800 somewhere them cross it out - my mistake probably due to being misleaded by one of you. But if I haven't done so then please stick to the subject :yumyum:

Yea dude, the X1950XT is a good card yes but i prefer my 7950GT. ITs fanless AND my temps dont go over 52c load. Also, if you look at reviews on the 8800 series of graphics cards youll see the higher the MB on the ram, the higher FPS youll have on resolutions up to and beyound 1920x1200. Nobody on a hardcore level of games runs at 1024x768 anymore. Usualy if you have the money to spit out for an 8800 series of card you typicaly have an LCD that can handle 1280x1024 AT LEAST. When i had a CRT in the 6800GT days i was playing at 1280x1204. So that point of argument is kinda useless. Also, i play on my 7950GT (and what used to be an OCed 3000+) those games you mentioned maxed at 1440x900 and DiRT which to me is a higher graphics game. I have almost any FPS you can spit out and i play them maxed 1440x900. Like i said, the X1950XT is good yes, but you shouldnt come onto a world renowned forums with such an argument. Youll surely get shot down unless you have enough of a backup.

Aye you know what. I re-read the top of your post and i see that you only put GTS. I automaticaly thought 8800GTS because at the time that was the topic at hand. I apologize emensly for that.
