Guy's should I keep my BFG Tech 7950GT or get a 8600GTS?So,I can get DX10?The 8800 is not really in my current budget.

Unless you currently have Vista I wouldn't worry about. Keep your current card, it's a great GPU. Considering there's currently nothing available for DX10, no need to upgrade at the moment. I'd save the cash until you will see an improvement and there are actually games for DX10 worth playing.

Okay, thats cool.Well actually every sim racing game that I do will never require dx10 anyhow. And I'am not going to vista until they can work out more of the bugs.As far as for gaming online with Vista.I've got windows xp pro right now.

Then you pretty much answerd your question. These 7950GTs are beasts dude. If your not getting Vista then theres really no reason to get a DX10 card, not only that the 7950GT pwns the 8600GTS in DX9 ;)

If u`r used to high-end 7xxx cards and want that sort of performance, u shouldn`t be looking at the 8600 imo, u` be better off saving til u can get the 8800.

This time next year it`ll be like comparing 7950 rigs with 7600, with the G80 range.

This time next year,I'll be gone.I've got diabetes, major heart problems, and cancer.Back in Jan. of this year my doctors gave me about 9-11 months to live.

Very sorry to hear that mate. :(

Hope you make the best of the time you have left. In that case I think you need an 8800 Ultra, a quad quadcore Xeon rig, with 32gigs of RAM :)

grandgotti, don't listen if they say 9-11 months. Just live your life.

My grandma had luekemia, and they told her she had 6 months, so she became weak and just lied down. She never went outside or did anything.

Dont want to see you like that or her for that matter. But its too late now for her.

Live your life man, have good times, and do good things that people will remembner you for.

Thanks for the encouragement.I try my best.I'am not to mobile myself.I have to walk on a walker.Because, back in november of 2006.I stepped on apair of scissors and my left foot got infected real bad.And I lost 3 toes from that foot.Just pray for me.

you sound as though you have had the worst luck ever

wish you some good luck

i would keep your card untill you go to vista and then get a 8800gts

WOW zomg i feel horrible for you man. Like Darkorb said, live it up and dont listen to them. My dad was given 3 years back in 82 because of cancer to his apendicitus (sp?) and its 2007, hes 51, and still kicking like i am. As to the video card, i say stick with the 7950GT. Youll like it more and DX10 isnt for a while.

Hello :wavey: ,

I just got registered here after a long while of searching for a good forum with decent replies. I stumbled upon your post and wanted to express how sorry I am about the luck grandgotti has had.

Here are 3 links that I use a lot. I am on the look of a 7950GT and facing the same dilemma 7950gt or 8600gts.

link 1: THE BEST site for GPU + features comparison (ATI+NVIDIA + ...): http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=445&card2=512

(select any card you like - i just put down the two of the current subject of discussion)

link 3: ATI chipsets comparison table:

I think I have ended up with the 7950GT after deciding that I will never use VISTA. Thinking about Ubuntu 7.*

And to go with that a Collermaster IGreen 430W because although my Thermaltake W0023 (560W 22A on the single 12V rail) is enough it uses less power and more efficient which means less money on electricity bills.

Let me know if the sites helped you or if you have found any better ones for the same purposes. I recommend making those three sites in a sticky note for people with similar dilemmas to look at.

chocodood :p

A few years back I had a major accident involving a truck my bike and the crash barrier :)

I was told

1) You will not walk again, I now jog to town and back

2) You will likely be dead by time your 21, I am now 23 soon to be 24

3) It is unlikely you will regain use of your right arm * errmmm frags guys on bf2142*

Honestly sometimes I think they are blithering idiots if I listened to them I would have been dead when I went in that hospital, instead I am alive to this day.

I agree but at the end of the day it's a measure of comparison. I haven't seen another site that allows you to overclock the cards :worship:

whether the site's prediction/comparison is different to that in Real Life (RL) or not depends very much on the rig you have and its compatibility with the neighbouring hardware.

I do believe it will be different especially from game to game. You see one card is schooling the other one in some specs while being schooled at something else...their purpose is to confuse us while in fact all those graphics cards are sh*t...my X700pro currently plays all the games I have installed/completed from NFS(all of them) to Chaos theory to STALKER on full quality settings...believe it or not. Why I need another card then? Well..I work on Solidworks and 3dsmax and have to render complex structures daily and this card just can't take it...

Any recommendations about which budget card (of th two talked about in this post) would be best for me? I recon the 7950GT but with DX10 I somehow believe 3D rendering will become a walk in the park...

this is wot i want to do too, upgrade from

XFX GeForce 7950 GT XXX Edition 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E

to

XFX 8600GTS XXX 256MB DDR3 PCI-E

wot do you think, the other does DX10 and i will be buying Crysis, is it worth upgrading to this card, my budget wont stretch to a 8800 unfortunatly

To be brutally honest, keep u`r budget in the bank until u can atleast afford a 8800 GTS.

I can`t see Crysis running in more than medium settings on the 8600, and coming from a 7950 background I don`t think u`d like that.

The reviews show the proof. The 7950GT walks all over the 8600GT in DX9 benches. Also, like i mentioned before. Its useless to compare by paper. Look at the HD2900XT for example. Still gets owned by the 8800s but yet is excelent on paper.
