7950GT vs 8600GTS

What res will you be playing at? If its anything low, (below umm say 1680x1050) then the 320mb will be absolutely fine. The 640mb is "intended" for higher res.

ive just bought that things big brother... :) waiting for it tho.. delivery is taking a while from ST due to flooding.. :) 8800GTS 640MB 'XXX' should kick ass hopefully :)

Good choice going with XFX honestly. You can literaly break the card in half and they will replace it for you (thats of course if your card has the modders friendly warranty)

Well XFX can be good for RMA's but not always. I know of someone who RMA'd an 7900GTX & was offered a 512MB 7950GT. Which despite the higher numbering is not nearly as good a card & despite much effort / emails / calls, the best he was offered was that card.

What are you talking about, the 7950GT is better than the 7900GTX. With my 3000+ i got nearly 6000 in 3dmark 06 with it.

yes the 7950GT is above all as a single DX9 card when it comes to nvidia range. it is even better than the GTS with DX10.

remember, there are no applications (games esp) with DX10 support out there yet. it will take long time for it to become a generic theme so you may forget about dx10 for the time being. besides vista that run on it there is nothing else.

I also urge you to avoid using vista as it is deceiving you and violates your privacy rights behind your back - it reports all the cracked/unregistered software and controls everything you install or use. use either xp or jump to linux. say no more. back to the subject;

you will find my dilemma a few posts back about which gfx card to choose. I have news - I ended up buying the X1950XT which as a single DX9 card it is the best in terms of performance and value for money for both nvidia and ati range of dx9 cards. if you guys are based in UK i got mine from ebuyer dead cheap with the OCZ 600w 4 rail PSU which comes with a EU power cord and is dead silent (£156 all in total). The gfx card rocks. coming from a nvidia background of cards (prior my X700pro) I may say I was totally unpleased with the slow performance. I am sure nvidia hasn't changed much nevertheless I did not want to risk it. if anyone says otherwise I will of course believe him and respect his opinion.

X1950Xt was my choice, wise and haven't regretted it at all! I suggest you do the same. I spent 2 months researching the gfx cards before ending up with my latter choice and guys gfx cards are a deceiving myth. mind the bus bits, the system memory the gpu speed and clock speed...the pipelines the shader processors..the manufacturers play around with them ALL the time and give a fancy name to make you buy them. the 2900 series from ATI is NOTHING in front of the X1950Pro for example even less compared to the 1950XT or the 7950GT. Be wary before you buy one. Read and read and read. be advised from some reviews but do not be based entirely on them. find lots of info (check the sites as guides and post in as many forums as you can find the question: "are you happy with the XXXXX card? How is it like compared to your mates' ?" where XXXXX is the card you want to get.

I am happy I finally got to buy two great pieces of hardware. Finally my gfx card tyranny is over so I can enjoy errrr...watching videos and design. I don't really play games at the moment because I don't feel the urge to do so BUT I did re-install stalker and the carbon/MW NFS again and gave them all a go. Setting that were grayed out before have now appeared such as Blur and guys at FULL settings for a continuous 3 hour playtime, and all 3 games running in parallel and I never heard the fan speed increase or the card to go louder. - my case has excellent ventilation (3x120mm fans + 3x60mm) which is the main source of the humm noise BUT still the temp of the card was around 50 degrees at all times - 75 when all games were running in parallel. 3 degrees more than the idle temp of my previous X700Pro.

X1950XT 256MB 256bit. not the 512. anything over 256MB of graphics memory is a waste of money - trust me it makes no difference since real time live life graphics simulators do not exist !

hope my brief review was what you were looking for. good luck and pm me if you have any questions regarding the X1950XT performance only!

Chocodood :wavey:

The thing about vista, is somewhat un true... The number of people using 'unregistered software' using vista will be millions, ide like to see microsoft control that. Do you use vista? if not then shut up..

And the second thing about anything over 256mb of ram is bull s@/7 when venturing into high resolutions i think you'll find the more memory you have the more frames u get... research these things before you say them..

first of all let's not make this post about vista.

how many frames more then, 10 maximum? because I am running all these games at 1680 x 1050 at a viewsonic monitor and trully speaking the performance is spectacular...what else would someone need. Besides people with 17" screens when playing at 1024x768 with nvidias are facing performance issues compared to atis. At the end of the day all gfx cards are the same, and it is entirely up to your liking with what you go for. My post is *specifically* for budget choices since both the GTS and the GT are budget cards, as the FIRST posts describe. PLease, stick to the rules and read all posts before you guys reply.

Anyway, listen (this goes to the last poster/poser); first of all speak nicely - you should by now feel ashamed with the way you speak to or the respect you show towards people that you do not know. :nono:

Secondly, I have been running vista for the last 3 years now not from the very early stages of longhorn but pretty much ever since I was accepted as a beta tester (not a master one)...and I have to say that *to me* vista are strong in many aspects but at most it is only a gui upgrade. I use and prefer xp more than anything else as it is much faster. linux backtrack is just a hobby - i would hate it (both vista and linux) if I had to use either as an everyday OS.

thirdly, and this one goes to all the rest who are about to reply: let's keep this post without any kiddy arguments about whose is better or who must shut up and what not.

if you have any argument to make then please back it up and most of all - let's keep the *bad attitude posts* to one (the previous one). Write to the point.

Thank You:wavey:

P.S. something I was reading the other day you only have to read the headtitles - http://badvista.fsf.org/what-s-wrong-with-microsoft-windows-vista

(i am not an enemy of vista. I am just against some *new* things that MS is trying to establish.)

Im with you, chocodood when it comes to Vista.

I find it truely bad. And a huge waste of resources.

But I disagree with your ideas on GPUs. As Pat said memory is good for higher res monitors. Helps to keep the FPS steady.

I have been running on an 8800 for 8 months now and I have to say I love it to bits.

I dunno where I was before this beast.

@ Pat - chocodood was correct when talking about attitude. You should take on board and respect other peoples opinions. Right or Wrong. ;)

yes bad attitude im sorry, i guess i didnt really read what i had said properly after it had been written,i have had no problems with vista at all its has been perfect for me.. Again my apologies for the 'bad attitude'.

:)

Sounds a stupid and 'lame' excuse but ive had a few personal problems the last couple of days so i apologise once again for my wrong behavoir.

Well I like Vista and it runs absolutely fine on my machine with no problems. But hey each to their own. I too have run Vista through alpha/beta and I think it's a decent platform, although not all it should have been.

As far as a card I disagree with you. Having tested a lot of cards over a long period of time U can honestly say that the 8800 series whips the X19XX series no problems...including in image quality and especially at high resolutions. The 2900XT is a good card but it just can't beat the 8800's for value and performance right now. Just my (informed) 2p :)

Yea dude, the X1950XT is a good card yes but i prefer my 7950GT. ITs fanless AND my temps dont go over 52c load. Also, if you look at reviews on the 8800 series of graphics cards youll see the higher the MB on the ram, the higher FPS youll have on resolutions up to and beyound 1920x1200. Nobody on a hardcore level of games runs at 1024x768 anymore. Usualy if you have the money to spit out for an 8800 series of card you typicaly have an LCD that can handle 1280x1024 AT LEAST. When i had a CRT in the 6800GT days i was playing at 1280x1204. So that point of argument is kinda useless. Also, i play on my 7950GT (and what used to be an OCed 3000+) those games you mentioned maxed at 1440x900 and DiRT which to me is a higher graphics game. I have almost any FPS you can spit out and i play them maxed 1440x900. Like i said, the X1950XT is good yes, but you shouldnt come onto a world renowned forums with such an argument. Youll surely get shot down unless you have enough of a backup.

ok, been rethinking and i need to know the difference between 320mg and 640meg GPU's, i want to upgrade to a 8800 but have no idea wot to go for, i swear by XFX so i will prob go for XFX but wot 1 i dont know, the two i am looking at are

XFX 8800 GTS 320MB DDR3 XXX Version <--- Click

or

XFX 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3 Extreme <--- Click

my problem is when i look at the spec the 320 seems higher, sumone plz explain... i mean beside the overclocked XXX edition, just need to know the dif between 320 and 640 !!!

thx in advance

Ye the 640 one you have their is an "Extreme" which isn't thier top range card, but the "XXX" Edition is their top-range card

yeah thx m8 but whats the difference between 320 mg and 640, what difference does it make to anything

forgive me i know it sounds like a stupid question
