7950 OCing

Hi there, i'm new to this website so HOWDY Y'ALL!!!

I'm having some issues overclocking my 7950 (Sapphire 7950 OC boost vapor-x edition)

When I started overclocking it following a guide I'd found.
(I followed a pcworld overlocking guide)
So I did just that, I tested till I found my max core clock/memory clock.

So I got the core to 1090, after that I got the memory up to 1480.
(note, ran it with it's stock voltage)

So I ran 3dmark with both of those settings, I could easily see that there was a solid 5-10 fps upgrade with the graphic test runs.

So after that I ran furmark. Let it run on it's max settings, It ran roughly for 5 minutes(temps were under 60) I didn't see any artifacts but the PC just reboots after 5 minutes of running it.

What should I do, up the voltage?

When I turn the core/memory clocks up. 1100/1400.
I tested it in MSI kombust. Everything ran fine, the card didn't go over 57*C and it wasn't really all that noisy.

But there is a weird scratching sound when I change the GPU's vcore up.

The 1100/1400 clocks ran with 1.2v. It did good in MSI kombust for 10 mins. But then I ran 3d mark 11(benchmark setting 1280x720, performance) It did the first little clip/scene perfectly but when it got to the second one the fps started droping from 50+ to 35ish after that the amd driver crashed. I thought I should make a reboot after the driver had recovered. So I did so, I went into 3d mark 11, with the uping the vcore (1.25v) and the same thing happened with an added scratching sound from the gpu :(

What should I do ?

Check your VRM temps with HWINFO anything over 90c and you need to cool them. Its not all about core temp..

Also dont use 3dmark for stability, try crysis 3 at max settings or far cry 3.

Im stable furmark, heaven and 3dmark 11 @ 1100mhz 1200mv but not stable in Crysis 3 or Far Cry 3.
