Hey there guys i have around 700 usd to spend right now on a gpu atm and its between the 7950 or the 7970. The 7970 on newegg has no custom coolers in stock and the 7950 does. I know i can clock a 7950 to easily beat a 7970 as well. So my question to you is do i grab a 7950>>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150588

OR a 7970>>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127645

I will be cf them latter no matter which one i get but i want to buy asap!

Thanks

PS: in case you guys are wondering my problem is i know the aftermarket 7950's will be cooler etc etc but the 7970 will offer my performance when overclocked just like the 7950 so which is better? to loose a little performance but not notice it(1080p@76hz)

7950s, 70s are pointless for 1080p and even a pair of 50s is overkill

I would get a single 7950. They OC like true beasts and on stock are very close to 580's.

I see you are going overkill. The 7950 will OC to a 7970 and you can flash the bios of a 7970 on to the 50. You can easily 1Ghz on 50's. But than you are on to max. I've seen the XFX r7970 Double Dissipation reach 1.4ghz. Insane. Since you got the money. I would do a single 7970. And when the price drops pick up another one. I am a person who loves the newest the strongest and the best. But I have no patience when it comes to computers.

I kinda have the same problem as you. I also got the money. So I ordered a XFX r7970 DD. I will OC ti 1.2. Just so it lasts and get another one when the price drops. I will do a 1080p for a while then get two screens more. You have the money. Why not? You are already going overkill with a single 50 and two will make even more overkill. And for the sake. A 7970 performance wise will in the theory last longer. That is me though.

Btw, I am not for the stock turbine cooling. Hate it. I don't see why these beast cards have them. Anyone knows why?

Btw: The Bios flash at the moment will not unlock any cores. Sadly.

off topic question: Should I be upgrading from a 460 or should I wait for the next gen?

Games I play: BF3, Skyrim, SC2.

Wow thanks for all the reply's.

Anyways i am going for overkill and i do need it asap.

Also just to clear this thing up i have 700 to spend right now so ill get one of these and another ssd and cf in 2 weeks xD

But judging by everyone's reply's im going to go ahead and grab a 7950
